Trying to find out if anyone applied for the Nursing program at Malcolm X? What should I expect after applying?
Some hospital won't allow you on the floor if you're not covered. Seeing how they haven't posted sites yet (we all probably won't find out until 1st day), I would shop around for insurance soon or if you're under 25 you can get on your parents insurance. It is part of the requirement for clinical approval. Good Luck!
I don't think you have to worry about the Health Insurance requirement that was included in one of the attachments in the e-mail Amy Green sent out to us back on June 21st. Amy sent out another e-mail on July 10th that included a Word Doc that was a new version of the Medical Compliance Checklist. In the new version, the requirement for proof of Health Insurance is omitted. In fact, that is the only change in the new version. So I think they rescinded that requirement (probably due to outcry from a bunch of people who don't have health insurance).
I've run into a problem which I HOPE is just a glitch in the my.ccc.edu software program. On Thursday I successfully signed up for the 7 credit hour Nursing 101 class and I also signed up for a 5 credit hour Chemistry class (a total of 12 Credit Hours). Today when I logged in to enter into a payment plan, the system claimed I owed $4182!!! When I went to the page detailing my bill, it listed the Nursing Program Tuition of $2429 AND it listed a charge of $1753 for the "12 Credit Hours or More" (regular program) Tuition. What the heck?!
Isn't the $2429 "flat fee" tuition for the Nursing Program supposed to cover any and all classes we take? I'm sure we're expected to take some electives. And even IF they were to charge us for any additional courses outside of the Nursing Program itself, that Chemistry course is only 5 credit hours - not "12 or More".
Of course, I found out about this problem after the Business Office had closed at 1 pm today.
Does anybody know about this? Is it just a mistake?
Best wishes,
John
Def talk to the business office. It happened to me my first year & again for this summer semester. I had signed up for the Fall classes back in March/April & for a summer class, my bill came out to over 6 grand. A quick visit to the business office and the next day they adjusted everything. You shouldn't pay additional even if you take 20 credit hours.
On another subject concerning the requirements we need to fulfill to start the program:
Concerning the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers requirement, when I first googled that term to find an appropriate course, the American Red Cross BLS webpage was at the top of the list. I clicked on it, read all the info and signed up for a course. But then a few days later I looked again at the paperwork we were sent by Amy Green and noticed it specified we needed to show an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare workers card. I'm not 100% positive about this but I'm pretty sure the American Red Cross course won't fulfill the requirement as it is not AHA certified. I cancelled my American Red Cross course (and they politely refunded the course fee) and have now signed up for an AHA course. Be careful and make sure the course you take is the correct one!
Cheers,
John
