Did any of you accelerated BSN folks have a not-so-great GPA in your first major?

Published

In my first bachelors, I got a 2.9...and I am just worried that even if I manage all As in the pre-reqs, no school will accept me.

Is there hope anywhere?

I applied to one ADN program and was declined. I didn't even bother applying to any Accelerated BSN programs because my GPA didnt' meet the requirements. Also, every accelerated program I was interested in applying to requires a different entrance exam, all with lovely fees. I may take some additional pre-reqs while getting my LPN and apply next year for an accelerated program! Good luck to you! =)

Yes! I had a gpa a little higher than yours-graduated college in 2008-did all my prereqs in one year-and am in nursing school as of 07/2009. I am in a Accelerated BSN program, but my pre reqs were all A's and my extracurriculars were great. You can make it!

Which program? What sort extracurriculars did you do?

Thanks for the reply!

hi Ted!!

i also have a degree in another field, and my gpa was a 2.97....i took the required pre-reqs for nursing school, and got all A's and B's...i was accepted into both schools that i applied....so yes, you can definitely do it...(just try hard to get the a's and b's in the sciences)...also-- whatever schools your looking into, do your research and find out if that 2.9 for previous degree is acceptable if you do well in the sciences!!!...so u dont ultimatly waste your time and MONEY!!! good luck

(and i start my bsn August 30th!!:yeah:)

:smokin: good deal, Isitpossible. best of luck this fall!

Do you think they really will not even look at your application if you have a 2.9 and they say they require a 3.0? Or is that just an arbitrary cutoff they use?

This thread is so inspirational and gives me hope. I earned my BA 18 years ago and thought that I would be forever cursed by my 3.2 GPA ... but my prereqs (depending on which ones are required for which ABSN) are in the 3.7 to 4.0 range. Then there is the hurdle of taking both the GRE and the TEAS by year's end (again, each one is required for one of two different schools I am considering) ... long months ahead, but it will all be worth it in the end!
