I HAVE BEEN OFFERRED A JOB WITH DAVITA, AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME OUT AND GIVE ME SOME IDEA OF WHAT TO EXPECT, IS IT A GOOD CO, ARE THE BENEFITS GOOD AND IS IT REALLY ABOUT TEAMWORK?

THANKS

I'm an LPN with DaVita. Benefits are good. Teamwork depends upon your facility, salary is probably below par. Management talks about the amazing bonuses. You have to be there a while to partake of that benefit. I've been here 13 months, still haven't seen any bonus money. But, I do like it here. There are worse jobs ~ LOL!!!! Best of luck to you in whatever employment decision you make.

I too would like to work for Davita upon graudation as a LPN while I work on my RN.

FLPDLPN, could you tell me if you applied through Davita's website, or did you contact someone from the clinic directly? Also, how long did your training with them last, and was it all day 5 days a week, or their 12 hour shifts?

Thanks!

Thankyou for your replies

I did take the job and I do like it. I dont know about the bonuses and all that, but I do think it will work out well. But time will tell!;)

Vonda, I applied thru the CareerBuilder dot com site. There was a position advertised. My training was quite extensive. I initially trained on the hemo side (for about 2 months), doing three twelve hour shifts. I then transferred over to Peritoneal Dialysis, where I am currently employed. After transferring I was trained by a Preceptor at another facility for two weeks, trained on site by my manager and attended a week long training program in Houston, Texas. The training is excellent. Best of luck to you.

Davita is my employer. I agree what the others said. The pay could be higher. The benefit package could be better...no contribution from they toward a pension...I think that is something to consider if you are going to work for many yrs to come...BUT, as with everything....it is what you make of a job, what you want, what hours you want to work, is it close to your home, do you even need benefits or does your spouse have them, they have a school you can go to through the company that is excellent...so you can get trained properly. I was trained on a shift that was high stress and that I was never going to work on. I also think that 12 hours are way too much for a training day....and you have to get time to do your workbooks OFF the floor to learn. Ask questions, take notes...and it will come together.

I personally like dialysis so I am willing to trade certain things...I have learned a lot, it wasn't easy.

The "team" thing, depends on the unit for sure. The FA's can't always do what they want with their unit...so a few "bad eggs" are allowed to ruin it. I am a totally positive person, a very hard worker...and Lord knows I am trying to make a difference not only with the patients, who have all my compassion, but with the employees. My FA is nice, the staff leaves a little to be desired.

I think any person can make the job what they want....training is just that...when you are on your own, have a little confidence, you can make the job a positive experience.

It is an area of medicine that has always had my interest. So many details, the meds, the diet, the patient is yours for a long time, you get to know them. I like dialysis in spite of it all.

Investigate...then decide. I think it is better than a lot of other areas.

Good luck ...:monkeydance:

Any info on the Twin Cities (Mpls/St Paul) Davita centers? I have an interview with them this week, and have heard a horror story from a friend of mine who was hired and worked 14 hours her first day - not for me, I'm trying to get away from 12 hour shifts.

Thanks for any info/advice!

Everything you all say is true. I Love the job itself, people...well people are people wherever you go. Good and Bad! My boss seems great, hours could be better but time will tell. At least though, I am getting comfortable now with the job itself, and I am sure everything else will fall together on its own. I just love reading what everyone has to say, Thankyou;)

Some of the Davita units are working 13.5 hour shifts, no choice. So check it out. We had one girl give notice and we have only been doing it 2 weeks. It's not for everyone, not for me either. If you hear a horror story, beware!

I clocked out last night with 16.48 hours for the day. Started out with 2 PCT's and myself as the only licensed person in the building for the day and ended the same way. 14 bed unit with 3 full shifts of pts to care for. Didnt have time to do the 3 initial nursing assessments on the new pts much less time to really monitor the transients that I know nothing about. Forget about the orders the nurse the day before left on those 3 new pts to get into the new "Snappy" yet they are in the waiting room angry that they havent been called for thier appt time yet and it's now 45 min later then they were told. Oh, and they 2 machines you had trouble with at 05:30 am when the first pt is already supposed to be on the machine then they are angry about that also. Explain to 3rd shift pts your late getting them on due to short staffing and the public transportation system bringing pts in 1 hour 1/2 late and of course half your pts use this system to get to dialysis. Oops dont forget the appts with other doctors you are supposed to make or the orders the doc in your facility walks around and never writes because you do it for him. I love dialysis but much of it is lacking that satisfaction I got when in critical care. Even there I got more than a 30 min break in that 16 hour day.

I truly feel for you. do you think it is the company or the FA. Do you think one hand doesn't know what the other is doing...The company vs the FA or are they both for this abuse?

I know frustration at Davita. sometimes it is because some people get all the responsibility, and some are slackers and the boss really doesn't care or it wouldn't be that way.

I appreciate the training, but I can't take the lack of professionalism. If I could stand hearing the F word at work, that would probably help....but I hate it and hate the behavior.

I know what you mean, I do.I have gone to break and have been called out to take a patient off when the girl calling me out has nothing to do and took two, not one...45 min smoke break in addition to her meal time. it is sickening.

the hard workers get frustrated.

There are other units.

I saw a seminar being run called "If you had one year to live" and it provoked a little thought...if I did, would I put up with the frustration at a Davita facility, I am not sure.

You love the patients so much, you want to do good so bad...and you go home frustrated.

good luck, there is another option, you just have to think about it.
