A desperate situation. Need your advice asap. My friend's daughter is within a few months of finishing nursing school in Manila. Unfortunately the daughter became pregnant and she was informed that she could not complete her course of study as RN. Can you please advise me about 1) schools in Manila where she could complete nursing school even if pregnant; 2) alternative courses she might take. Thanks for the advice!!!

Maybe you should get the reasons why her (the pregnant student) school didn't admit her. If the student completed all her clinical hours and community duties, then she will just have to finished some theoretical hours, thesis, etc. Look for the brighter side of this and don't compromise the health of the baby.

There are many nursing schools in Manila that accept enrolees regarless of their marital status even like your friend's daughter's situation. i guess the question will be her endurance against stress from school activities and hospital duties because of her condition. Anyway, try to make inquiries from Our Lady of Fatima University. They have branches in quezon city, valenzuela and antipolo.

its better for her to stop sch0oling atleast for now, and continue her studies after her pregnancy. Nursing schools usually dont allow pregnant students to attend the regular semester because of the risks that may jeopardize their pregnancy especially in the clinical area. One example is German measles, it can cause congenital an0malies to the baby. It can have a very negative effect. Try some other schools if they'll give special c0nsiderations but i think its hard to find one.

If she is pregnant out of wedlock, then chances of her finishing nursing school is impossible. I don't know what year she is already in nursing school, but I believe that no college nor university may take a chance to accept a pregnant student nurse out of wedlock. If she gets married through a civil or church wedding, then things might change for her. Though, once she's on her last 2 years of nursing school, she might struggle or worst: experience a miscarriage. As the last 2 years of nursing school are considered the toughest. Plenty of pre-requisite cases that needs to be taken care of when she is doing her clinicals, if she wants to graduate and take the local boards.
My advice: She either has to quit nursing school for the mean time til she gives birth, or get hitched to finish her nursing program. Good Luck to her!

Hi roz! What did u mean when u said " she could not complete her course of study as RN"? You mean, she was expelled, or was just asked to enroll after having the baby?
Because if the school asked her to stop for a while, they did it for her safety. She's pregnant, and being a student nurse she'll be exposed to all kinds of viruses, CD, nosocomial infections. It won't be good for her nor her baby.
and u mentioned she's within a few months of finishing BSN. It'll be a waste to start on a new course just coz she got pregnant. :twocents:
Let her finish her course, just find a new school if she was expelled. That is if she really loves nursing. :redbeathe
