descent weekend jobs for PN students

Published

Hello,

Aside from being a CNA, what are descent weekend jobs for a nursing student to hold? I'm looking into home health aide, pct for hospital, pharm tech for hospital, weekend receptionist, babysitting, etc.

What are some ways you have earned an income?

My program leaves little time to work. M-F 8am to 4:30pm.

Ideas or insights appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your experiences and insights.

I wish I could be of more help to you, but I can't. I had a job prior to my nursing school journey, and I have already told my manager that I can only work Friday/Saturday/Sunday (sometimes only fri/sat because she rotates Sundays). I thought about trying to get a job in something that's more medical (I work in grocery retail) but those jobs pay the same or less than my current job, so I decided to stay where I am.

Hope you find something soon.

Hope you find something soon.

Thanks, just having trouble finding something that works with my schedule. I don't have much time. I'm hoping it works out.

I worked at Walmart, they worked around my schedule too.

Try home health/private duty and also waitressing

Basically it is like this, before I ever decided to go to school for nursing I was a cook for a national restaurant chain, which basically means I have corporate benefits (vision, medical, dental, 401k, payed vacations, ect.). And being that restaurants get most of their weekly revenue on the weekends I was able to switch to a Fri-Sat-Sun scheduled without any issues. The pay was never that great but I have been with them for a while, I am being payed more then most of the other cooks.

After the first semester, when we were cleared to take the CNA exam, I thought of switching to CNA for the experience, but that would basically meant a pay cut and possibly the losing benefits. Besides school never left much free time for job hunting so it never happened.

Sometimes it helps to think outside the box. I started a new job 2 months ago, and I never thought I would get a job there because I have no degree. Luckily they needed someone just to do simple office tasks and I happened to run across the listing on their website. Look everywhere for postings, careerbuilder.com, snagajob.com, monster.com, Sunday newspapers, and just visit the websites of local businesses to see if they have any jobs listed. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your suggestions. How do you best cope with having so little time? I love downtime. I will miss it.

I work home health now. Hoping a good position comes my way.
