Has anyone else applied to DePaul's MENP program for the Fall 2011 term? If so, has anyone heard back from them?
Well I don't actually know personally how the job prospects would be. I've talked about all of the programs with a NP (that also completed DePaul's MENP) and she seemed to think that you would have a hard time being hired as an NP if you haven't had prior RN experience which definitely makes sense. I'm actually from the northwest suburbs, but I commute downtown for school.
Hi guys I have applied for the MENP for fall 2011 too! I am anxiously waiting to hear back from them in the coming weeks. Glad to see all you guys waiting with me. I know the tuition for the program is crazy and I hope we can get some sort of aid. Does anyone know if students get scholarships or any grant offered by the school? Knowing that working during school is going to be hard, I know loans is the only option
Also MENP will we actually get NP status after the 2 years? Because I know hospitals prefer nurses with experience before going to become a NP. I don't know how the job outlook be for all of us. I hope by the time we graduate the economy is better and the demand of nursing is high that we won't have any problem being hired. That is my biggest concern getting MENP degree and not getting a job soon after. Loans will hit us thats for sure. Yikes!
Anyway good luck to all you guys and let me know if you guys hear anything :)
Welcome!
As for NP...and someone correct me if Im wrong...this is not an NP program. This is a Master's in Nursing. Nurse Practitioner is a whole seperate program, and one that soon will be only offered on the Doctorate level. This means another two years after we complete the two years of the MENP.
They should have sent you a username and temporary password, but they may have just forgot. I was impatient and ended up asking someone for mine a couple days after I submitted my application. All you need to do is get into contact with admissions either by phone or the online chat and ask for your campus connect login info. Someone will email you with your username and password so you can check your application status online.

I feel the same way. I don't like the idea of commiting to a specialty before I ever work as an RN although I definitely think NP could be something I'd like to do. The NP I've talked to also thought it would be a bad idea (job prospect wise) to try to go APN before working as an RN for a while.
