Denver School of Nursing 2014

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am starting this thread for people who are applying to Denver School of Nursing for any 2014 start date. I will be applying for the October 2014 start. It would be nice if other people who plan to apply will post their application/acceptance process. I know that I will be curious to see when other people start receiving calls for interviews. I hope to get into the ASN program, but I am a little nervous about my grades. I have gotten B's in all my pre-reqs and in the process of taking A&P 1, and may get a C...yikes. I do volunteer at Littleton Hospital, so hoping that will help. Can anyone else talk about what they are doing to hopefully get accepted in this school?

Thank you!

I just received an email saying that I can set up my interview time. I am ecpxcited but so very nervous!

Don't be nervous! The interview was very casual. It was more of an orientation type of thing to be honest. First the admissions counselor takes you in her office and just asks you a couple questions about how you found out about the school and what made you interested in it. Then she does most of the talking about the school and program and things like that. Then its just a tour of the facilities and talking to the financial aid personnel. As long as you have an interview and have all your pre-reqs done you are basically in. They tell you right away if you are in or if you are on the alternate list (for people who have not finished pre-reqs). I hope it goes well!!

I applied for the October start date for the ADN program at DSON. I'm pretty nervous and becoming very antsy with the wait. I have 3 more weeks to go to find out if I got accepted. Anyone else applied for the October ADN program?

I applied applied for the the ADN October start date also! I got my acceptance email about 3 weeks ago and had my interview last week, my Hesi exam is on June 24th. Check your junk mail also, good luck!!

I got an email this afternoon saying I can set up an appointment for August for my interview. I don't have to take the Hesi, thank God, coz I have a degree.

How did the interview go? Were you told during the interview that you're accepted in the program?

Hi there! Can anyone who has already completed the interview tell me more specifics about the "enrollment" process?...

What were the steps after your interview? And how long before the actual start date, did you have before you had to fully commit to DSN?

Any information would be awesome....

Thanks!!

I will be starting in July. Anyone in group A?

Hello future DSN nursing students.

I just graduated from DSN in June 2014. All i want to say you wont be disappointed with the school. I went for the ADN started in January 2013 finished June 2014. 18 months went by so quick, they really did.

The staff there is great. Loved Micah- you will have him if you havent taken Pathophysiology - he was amazing, i learned so much from him - but heads up, the class itself is very intensive, so drop your facebook, radio - its all about Patho for the time you are taking it, but he makes it so much more fun :)

Loved Med Surg with Megan Mc CLintock, she was amazing and put things in perspective for us - great teacher.

The application process was smooth and sailing , i went with Jeff, he has always been so caring, i still go back there and he greets me just like if i was still a student there. Annette, the front desk lady, she couldnt be any sweeter, whenever i needed change or $ for the vending machines to power up the brain after 12 hours of class and going, she would either provide me with change or lend me $ (payed it back though) but she was always very caring and understanding of our exhaustion ;)

The program itself is not easy, but if you are a strong class/cohort through it all, you will all make it ;) what helped us survive was Brother's bar right across from the school, some days on our very very frustrating days, we would hang out for lunch, or just to get some fresh air and talk , i felt great and as a cohort, we were all very close. and still are.

All I can say, stay on top of yourself, your studies, and keep your sanity, you will need it ;)

Oh - Sims lab --- it was so much fun!!!! i loved each one of them . You get to feel like you are running the whole thing and its super cool.

The actual lab with Terry/ Nancy Sanderson and others, was so much fun, loved wound care lol, tube feedings, IV therapy with Ginger the instructor!!!

You all will have a blast ;0

Good luck to all of you , and GO NURSES!!!!!! ;)

Hi Deimysd, thank you for posting your experience in the ADN program. I will be starting the ADN program in October and I was wondering if you could tell me what the schedule for the first quarter was like. I have to take Nutrition and Patho and I was wondering what my schedule will be like.

And since you have graduated in June, how long did you have to wait to take the NCLEX and were you able to find a job? Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi whiteorchid81-

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond.

Well for starters, first Q sucks to be honest. Now don't get discouraged hang on-

Patho was 3 times a week- Monday- we'd- Fridays

Nutrition Mondays and Fridays

Then you have health assessment and health assessment lab.

And last differentiated practice- which is pretty much the history of nursing like Florence Nightingale and so.....

So all of that was put together in Q1.

Lots of studying, not much time for anything - but for patho Micah the instructor- he let's you record the clas- so highly highly recommend you get yourself an app where you can record for hours or a device that will let you do that as well- because the class is non stop - some breaks here and there but there's too much to cover in 3 months. Listen to the recordings wverytime you can- car ride home or work whatever, at home, when you are studying for the exam use both, the packets you get and the recording. The packet is for visual , the recording is for hearing reenforcement., it helped me a lot!! A lot!!!! Finished the class with an A not an A plus but he also has some awesome awesome visual way to put things in perspectives, you will have fun with patho but don't forget to study on your own- re enforce all that you learn and mainly, don't fall behind, our minds work best when at stress!

The class you can probably blow off a bit is differentiated practice. Instructor is very understanding of our schedule so she will be nice. Some open notes exams

Nutrition- study- I didn't personally take it - brought it from another college but I heard the guys it was very thorough, so study but it's fun. I enjoyed nutrition

Also, health assessment will take you to a whole new level of test questions that may have never seen before, don't get discouraged if you don't get it at first, the instructors for that class are very understanding too and are also willing to help you.

I finished that class with a 83 because it was hard for me. The test questions were not black or white anymore.

They were all right but it was which one should the nurse do first or which one should the nurse do most? You will see-

It is fun overall, I know you will enjoy it.

Oh forgot to mention- the passing grade for all classes all the way through your nursing school is 78. Anything below that- you flunked!

So keep it above ;-)

Study groups were fantastic for me. I studied with 3 girls in either my house or hers and we made it fun too.

You won't have Clinicals until the Q after. 2nd Q you will have Clinicals but that will come later.

Good luck, I wish you the best only!!
