Denver School of Nursing April 2017 cohort

U.S.A. Colorado

Hi guys! Just got an email saying they will proceed with an interview, and asking what days and times would be best for me. DSON will run interviews through February, per the admissions coordinator.

For past DSON students, does the interview more or less = acceptance if it goes well and you can secure financing? I am hoping I am able to go up there after classes end in mid December, but i suppose they will tell me when my interview will be. Also, how long after your interview do you get notification of acceptance, if anyone knows? I already have a bachelor's, so I do not have to take the HESI.

I tried to message you, however allnurses says that I cannot privately message anyone yet until I have more activity on my account. I too will have a BA so no to the HESI and I also need to contact financial aid to figure out expenses!

Which low income housing institutions would you recommend? I am from out of state and do not know the area. Any advice would be very helpful!

Thanks!

One question to any former students that may have a look at this thread..

Are you able to "defer" your start date? I'm thinking the answer to this is no..you'd have to just reapply..But I have an interview coming up and probably won't be able to finance the tuition for another 9-12 months. I wonder if they'd at least put in a good word for you if you told them you were going to reapply a few start dates down the line once you had the money?

Hi amacarmona,

I recently applied for July 2017 as well. I am currently waiting for an email for an interview. We are in the same boat this is my first out of state application, and I'm from Texas. Once I get accepted I will be looking for roommate. I will be taking my car with me. Best of luck! I'm sure you will get in!

I had my interview on the 22nd, my HESI test yesterday (7th) and signed the enrollment papers immediately after passing. The interview is pretty much just sitting down to go over paperwork and a short tour. After the HESI test (if you pass), you try on scrubs to get your size and take your ID photo, then sit down to sign the paperwork. Good luck to everyone who is still in the process! I hope to meet everyone in April :)

How is everyone planning on funding housing during the program? Work or loans? I'm an out of stater

Hi I graduated from DSN September 2016. And I just passed the NCLEX.

I was also from out of state. My family moved here from Cali. Getting into nursing school in Cali is nearly impossible so when I had the opportunity to move I took it. I applied at DSN and within a month I got a call back for interview and fill out paperwork. I didn't have to do the HESI coz I have a BA. The only problem I had was figuring out how to pay my tuition. Since having a BA I was not eligible for grants. So I had to come up with half of my tuition. Federal loans covered the rest.

I was lucky enough to find a job as a medical assistant that worked with my schedule. My tuition monthly was 1370. So it was quite a bit.

To answer the question if you can defer enrollment until next quarter? I believe you still can. I had a classmate who did just that. She applied for the July cohort but asked DSN to start in the October cohort. She didn't have to reapply. The school just changed her start date.

My advice for anyone starting at DSN is this, take it as it is and suck it up. It'll make sense after your first couple weeks.

Keep in mind that the school has to accommodate around 700 students at a time. Meaning 700 students need clinical placements and it's not easy finding placements for everyone. You'll find that you may not get the clinical site you want or you may find that you'll be stuck in a nursing home for your med surg placement while other students will get hospital placements.

Also, HESIs. It's a pain. Some people get it, some don't. Just learn how to take the test. If you're the type of student who's not a good test taker then I suggest you aim to do well on your didactic exams to keep your grades up. Coz HESI can bring your grade down if you bomb it.

If anyone is looking for a roommate please let me know! I know housing out there is expensive and I am an out of state student so I will be looking for any opportunity to cut down living expenses and it would be really great to also live with another nursing student! I can give you my contact information via private message but if anyone's interested, please reply to this post!

Thank you!

Hi! I went to my interview and I found out I was accepted! It wasn't really much of an interview. It was more of an information meeting and tour and such, but everyone was really nice!

Now that I am accepted, I am trying to find a place to live. Is anyone looking for roommates?

I'm looking for roommates! Everything is so expensive so I was looking for places about 20 mins away or so. But if there is something closer that is less than $1,000 a month that would be great!

I'm looking for a roommate!
