Denver School of Nursing April 2017 cohort

Hi guys! Just got an email saying they will proceed with an interview, and asking what days and times would be best for me. DSON will run interviews through February, per the admissions coordinator.

For past DSON students, does the interview more or less = acceptance if it goes well and you can secure financing? I am hoping I am able to go up there after classes end in mid December, but i suppose they will tell me when my interview will be. Also, how long after your interview do you get notification of acceptance, if anyone knows? I already have a bachelor's, so I do not have to take the HESI.

Hey! I also got the e-mail for my interview, and have my date set for November 22. Based on what I have read from other forums, it sounds like the interview is pretty much just a tour of the facilities and (for me) a time to set up my entrance exam. If nobody else posts before then, I can let you know come the 22nd! Best of luck to you :)

Hi guys, its nice to see some other students received an interview for the April 2017 cohort - I set my interview for January because I am an out of state student. I've heard the same thing about the interviews - its more of a way for them to meet us in person and sign some papers for enrollment. I'm not too worried - just excited. Do you guys 100% plan to attend DSN/have any idea about your living situation yet? I'm trying to go about finding an apartment/roommates.

Hi Bhartix4, congrats on the interview!

My interview is in January and I'm from out of state as well. As the program is very costly (55k + housing which may end up closer to 75k), I'm heavily weighing taking a year off to save money and then reapplying. I already have some debt, and having six figures of it scares me. Unless I could work during the program to make a monthly payment, I may Re-Apply for the fall.

As far as living, I plan on (if I attend) to try to find people close to the school to room with. Would definitely cut the rent down to 1/3 or so of what I would be paying, and its pretty high on avg in Denver.

Hi all! I am getting ready to apply for the July 2017 cohort (BSN program, I have my BS in Health Education), saw this thread and would like to get some pointers. I live in California, work in registration at an Emergency Department, and volunteer at a women's clinic in San Francisco. I'm a little nervous since I have repeated a couple courses for a higher grade and don't want that to effect my chances of getting in. Any words of advice would be appreciated! This is my first out-of-state application, as California is extremely competitive. Thank you!

I am a Sept 2016 grad from DSN. Just here to inform you that the interview process is just to really learn about the program costs, what the school looks like, etc. If you're being interviewed consider yourself accepted with only the entrance exam standing in your way. As far as living is concerned, heavily consider low income housing in the area surrounding DSN. If you get on the waiting list now you are likely to hopefully have something by then. They are nice places to live with affordable rent! Students obviously qualify.

Good luck, I learned a lot and am grateful for the education I received. My only complaint is not having specialized clinical hours (OR, Peds, Etc.) I passed the NCLEX in 75 questions...that's the ultimate goal lol.

I too just received my interview email and am very excited. I also was offered admission to a school in Nebraska but am almost positive I will be going to DSON! I am too from out of state, California, and will be looking for cheap housing options and will be bringing my car with me.

I was just offered an interview for the April 2017 cohort. I too am from California and ran into the same competitive problem with schools here. I repeated one science pre req for a higher grade, but my initial grade was already passing and retook some non science pre reqs as well. I have medical volunteer experience, PT aid experience from almost 10 years ago and will earn my first degree with a BA this fall. Hope this helps, but i believe you have a chance.

Congratulations! I'm pretty certain from the posts above that "congratulations" is an acceptable phrase. Do you have to take the HESI exam? I'll have a bachelors so I won't need to...message me your name (maybe we can become Facebook friends) I set my interview for January and I too will be bringing out my car to CO if I choose this program. I still need to talk to financial aid - not sure how I'm paying yet haha.

Quick question. It is ultimately going to come down to whether I can afford the monthly payments coupled with how much financial aid will offer me. Do you think it is feasible to work part time on weekends (I have my CNA) to help cover monthly costs, or is this more or less not do-able?

DSN is really my No. 1 school as my family just moved to the area, but I'm concerned about having a lot of debt when I get out. Thanks!
