Degree in Holistic Medicine + Nursing

Published

Hello everyone. This is my first post on allnurses.com.

I am in my last semester of undergraduate school and about to get my Bachelor's Degree in Alternative and Complementary Medicine. I plan to pursue Nursing School after I graduate.

I am very interested what the scope of practice is in regards to nurses and alternative medicine.

Classes I took involved learning about homeopathy, acupressure, massage, herbal medicine and botany, acupuncture, stress reduction, meditation, and yoga. My main interest and hobby is herbalism so that is the one about which I am most curious but any information is helpful.

Here are some specific questions I have:

  • Will my knowledge and training in holistic medicine be useful in any way as a nurse?
  • Will knowledge of the physiological effects of Hawthorne Berry or Valerian Root help me or be totally irrelevant?
  • Would knowing about a reflexology point on a patient's foot come in handy in any way?
  • How is Herbal Medicine viewed where you work?
  • Has anyone who has had some experience with this?

I probably just asked too many questions but just an answer to one of them would be fantastic and much appreciated!

[This is all assuming I a) get into nursing school, b) pass everything, and c) actually get a job. But regardless of my future, I am curious to find out what y'all have to say.]

:)
