I applied to my local community college but did not get into the program. I will continue to work towards my pre-reqs and a degree to become a medical secretary. It is not really where I want to be for the rest of my life but it would be a step in the right direction.
Good for you, good luck! :)
I have made a decision about my future. I have been out of high school 16 years (wow!!!) and have gone to college off and on all those years. I have about 100 credits at my previous college but they do not go towards a specific degree. About 2 years ago I came to conclusion that I wanted to be a nurse. You sound a lot like me! I've been out of high school for 18 years, and I'm close to obtaining 120 credits at various colleges since '88 (with no bachelor's degree). I've declared psychology and social work as previous majors, and two years ago I decided to change my major, once again, to nursing. In between having three children, I am finishing my pre-reqs and close to applying to nursing school for my BSN.
Good luck to you! You are not alone!

I, too, have just recently made the decision to change careers and go into nursing, if I get accepted. It is exciting, isn't it? I have always wanted to be a nurse ever since I was 18 and became a CNA. I worked in the home health field and absolutely loved it. I remember feeling like I was doing what I was supposed to be doing with my life. I married at 18, began having kids and when I went to college at 24, my ex husband encouraged me to take accounting because it came so easy. I did as told (dumb) and worked in the bookkeeping/secretarial field unhappily for the past 10 years or so. Right before I left him, I went to a newly opened home health care agency and told them I wanted to work for them as a CNA. I missed it so. I did but they also saw my office potential and put me to work pt in the field and pt in the office. After I left my husband, I could not afford to work there anymore and had to take an accounting position. A couple years later, I met a nice, good looking Pharmacist and we married a year later. Funny thing, though, the home health agency I described above is owned by his mother, who has a BSN! I have continued over the past six years doing bookkeeping/secretarial work in a school district which allowed me to coach and be close to my daughters. Well, I am 39, my oldest just graduated hs and the baby is 14. I decided this was going to be it and I am going for my RN. I have many pre-req's out of the way but I do need a few. I have to re-do the CNA because I let it lapse. To get into the program here, you have to have your CNA, a PX, a C or better in Anatomy and your ACT or another test with certain scores. I begin Anatomy tomorrow which I believe will tell me if I have what it takes. My family has every confidence that I do and know that there is a need for loving, compassionate nurses in the home health field. I am not interested in this point of my life in administrative type of work because I really want hands on and I want to experience all kinds of nursing. I am excited and hope like heck that I get chosen for the program. They have their first round of picks at the end of Sept. and that is a big reason I am taking anatomy in the shortened summer section. I want to know soon! There is also another pick in February. I never realized how hard it might be to go to nursing school but I am glad that it is. Good luck to you and do not give up your dream!:yelclap:
