Deciding on a stethoscope...

 I am looking to purchase a new stethoscope...

I am undecided on a Litman (not a good speller) or the Ultrascope... If anyone could give me some suggestions or your thoughts, that would be great...

After I am done with school I am planning in working in Pedatrics or Labor and Delivery.. I would like to continue school to become a midwife... I thought that I would add that in because maybe one scope would be better for the feild I wanna be in after school... Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

I am 20 yrs old. I live in upstate ny. I am in nursing school. Just started maternity. I will be done with school in May 2004. I love nursing and cant really see myself doing anything else. I am hoping to continue school and become a midwife. If that doesnt happen I really want to work with children or teens. I find psych interesting, so who knows...

Not sure what else you wanna hear... I am willing to answer any questions....

Crazy Nurse D: I agree with P_RN. A Littman cardiology 3 is a good investment. Get a nameplate for it and keep your eye on it. I am from Western New York. Went to school there. Good Luck.

Being a bit older than my fellow nursing students (I won't say how much older) I discover that with my Littman I couldn't hear squat! I invested in a Phillips Electronic and it's so powerful I can hear a patient's thoughts. I was disappointed in Littman but a couple of times I used real cheap ones and they worked fine. Maybe it's how much wax you have in your ear that day.

I have a steth. Its one that came in a kit, it has a double line, and I couldn't hear crap... I tried other students littmans and enjoyed them... I also tried a girls ultrascope and like it. I am sooo bad with making decisions, I just done wanna spend the money on one and not like it... Thanks everyone for your input...

Had the same experience (and c age). Owned a Litt Cardio and couldn't hear squat. Love the Phillips Electronic. For anyone interested in getting one, a biz called Sharons Collectibles had the best price at the time. She also auctions them on Ebay.
