December AMEDD Board

Good luck with the board! I went through again for active duty board this summer. Went through for reserves in 2004 and to reserve OBC that december. I was 40 when I went through the active board this summer and will be 41 when reporting for active duty.

Well, I am going this month (YAY) and hopefully going to OBLC next spring. My ultimate goal is to get my BSN and go active duty.... Good luck to everyone being boarded this month as well!!!

Did you have to attend OBLC twice? I know there is difference in course length between RC and AD. I am hoping to go AC sometime in the near future. Since you are already "in the system", did the process go a little faster when switching from RC to AD than it did for initial commission in RC?

Nope, as far as I am aware you wouldn't have to repeat OBC (transitioning from Reserve Component to Active Component)

And yeah, still that waiting lag time. Let me think: I started the process for AD in December 2007 and found out I was accepted right before I went to El Salvador on a MEDRETE (01 MARCH). So it took me 3 months, but then again I guess it may have to do with how "aggressive" your health care recruiter is/can be

I do not have to do OBC again and am heading to CCC instead. Even the reserves CCC (2 weeks) would count if I would have went this summer but was told not too by accessions officer as it could hold up my release from reserves.

It actually took me longer to get paperwork straight and get boarded being in the reserves than my friend who had no military experiece whatsoever (we did our packet at the same time). My stuff ended being a month or 2 behind. You have to get a release and other stuff for the board to view.

Yes Captain's course, it is 9 weeks for active nurses. I go from mid March to mid May 2009 then report to CRNA school 01 June.

I called the recruiter in early February and was all complete and in for the school by the end of May or early June I think. They missed something in my board packet that delayed it by a month or so. I think they board every month now. The accession to active duty was much more paperwork and detailed than the CRNA application.

I still do not know what my time in grade or actual rank will be until I get ready to ship out (the recruiter says 72 hours before). Since active duty requires you be a 1LT(P) or CPT to attend CCC's, I guess I will be somewhere in there.

Congrats on getting a spot in the CRNA course. I hear that is ultra competitive and its relatively tough to get a slot. Dont you hate it when the Army leaves you hanging? I am the type that hates loose ends so this waiting game is driving me nuts.

Thanks! It is competitive but the Army is short and stays short so they need you as bad as most want it. With rthe eserves you can go to CCC as a 1LT as long as you have complete phase I online. CCC-RC is held once a year in the summer at a college in San Antonio and is 2 weeks long.

But my friend who was no prior service, started at the same time as me, got boarded first. I think being prior service or current RC officer, complicated things with gatheing info and paperwork and had nothing to do with CRNA school. The majority of that CRNA is done online thru the affliliate NEU and with an interview at Ft. Sam (the trip was 2 days and the interview about an hour - he digi sent the recommendation to the board right then.)

It is total active duty, full pay and all benefits (2 1/2 yrs of school with 4 1/2 payback time). Family is included all on moves as they are PCS's. Phase I at Ft. Sam, Phase II at either Hood, Bliss, Sam, Gordon, Lewis, Tripler, Walter Reed. They tell you to work it out where you want to go and then assign if too many want to go to one place and not others. There are minimums that have to go to major facilities and Dual service and exceptional family members trump others when no one wants to give in. Whoever is going to phase II together will be a research group and work on a reserch project and paper together.

Phase I is at nursing education building at Ft. Sam and has military and civilian professors, and is all didactic for one year. Phase II is clinicals for 18 months and include sites off post and out of town, but the army provides housing and TDY. NEU out of Boston oversees and awards your degree. You get weekends, holidays, and training holidays plus 2 weeks around christmas during phase I and about the same during phase II minus some training holidays I think but you get time off because you are so busy.

The army counts ER time as critical care according to the CRNA website and application. Check it out or get in touch with AMEDD recruiter.
