Death by A&P a summer course

Published

Hey guys I am currently taking A&P 1 and in July A&P 2 in two condensed 4 week courses because I thought that would be a great idea. On top of the already challenging high speed class I have dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and short term memory issues. By some miracle I have an 86 with a week of class left (2 more exams and a lab practical to go). I really want to boost my grade up those last 4 points to get an A. The nursing school at my university is incredibly completive and I really want to get in. Do you all have any tips for study tips for a high paced class or A&P in general? I'm an incredibly hard worker and I'm willing to try almost any study tip you give me. Thank you all so much

I took A&P I in a seven week condensed course...I found visual aids were the most helpful to me and used them in any practical way I could find. I spent extra hours in the lab each week to help myself focus and study. Just focus as much of your time on reviewing the materials as possible and you will be fine. Note cards were useless to me in A&P, diagrams were my best friend. Have you seen those A&P coloring books? May seem childish, but they were really helpful to me. Good luck!

Just so you know if you do become an RN and you make a med error your "issues" will not matter. Lawsuits and being fired do not care what your outside "issues" are. If you are not fit for duty then you have a responsibility to inform your head nurse. Same with school. Every student has challenges in their life..they are still expected to perform at a high level. You appear to be doing well so I would continue to do what is working.

When I was in school I was a "ten day" guy. Give me 10 days of non stop studying and I can get an A on any test. That worked for me. You seem to have the class dialed in pretty well. Good luck.

I don't have any suggestions really, just dropping in to say I am on a similar schedule. I had a 6 week AP 1 then a 5 week AP 2 at the same time as the 11 week Micro. Intense.

I am not saying that that my "issues" are an excuse. I have worked incredibly hard to over come them and work as a functional student and I am succeeding. I understand I might be at risk for more mistakes because of my "issues". People have been telling me that since I can remember. That doesn't mean I am going to stop working towards my dream of becoming a RN. I appreciate your study advice, but I do not appreciate being stereotyped as a lazy student who uses her learning disabilities as an excuse for struggling in a difficult course.

Wow.. I would not have done such an accelerated course, but everyone is different. I suggest using Khan Academy. It has videos on nearly every subject. The videos tend to be pretty reliable and easy to understand. I wish you luck!

I'm currently taking AP2 over a five week summer session (Only five more days to go, yay!) and have found Crash Course videos (on YouTube) helpful for an overall "big picture" before reading the text to clarify and go into more detail. Good luck!

I too took my A&P courses in 4-5 week summer sessions. I made it through with tons of You Tube videos as well as the coloring books someone else mentioned earlier. I did have amazing lab professors though that would stay until we understood a concept. I am unsure if I would have made it without his help, drawings, and patience. Good luck to you...

Wednesday is my final . finishing up my five week course. Incredibly challenging.... But possibl . So far I have aced five tests , and hopefully the final. Diagrams in the book. I'm visual person, I need to visualize what is going on in the body . when you learn a new concept close your eyes and visualize what it looks like happening in your body and you will have something to relate it to. I visualized touching a hot pan , receptors propagating action potions along axon through dorsal roots / horns of spinal cord. Synapsing with efferent neuron and traveling through ventral horns along the axon and pulling my hand back. Whenever you have extra time replay it like a movie. Weird advice but it works!!
