Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?
Do you mean the Art Appreciation class that is ARTS 1307 or 1304 or something like that? I can't remember the number right now. Anyways I took that class when I first started school and I enjoyed it. We went over the many different periods of art and had to do a couple of projects which we made our own art and discussed it in class and we had to write 1 paper in which we went to a museum and wrote about several different pieces of art. I enjoyed the class. I took it at Brookhaven so sorry I can't help you with who to take at Mt. View. Good luck!!
I am wanting to take Fine Arts Appreciation in Spring 2006. Is this a hard class? I will be going to Mt. View college..does anyone know who is a good teacher for this class? What is the class about? Do they have alot of papers to write? Thank you in advance.Amy

Sorry, I'm taking Music Appreciation. For this class, there are two-600 word papers, one over a concert we must attend, the other over a poem.
....There's lots and lots of reading. I wouldn't mind it as much if it was something I was really interested in. lol

How many tests were there? What are the tests like?

Fun..are you taking this at Mt. View? How many tests are there and what are the tests like? I am now considering taking either Music or Art Appr., in the "winter semester" between Fall end and Spring begins. I know it will last 4-5 weeks and I do work full time. I know either class will meet 3-4 hours per day M-F and I need to get an A. What do you think since you are taking the class now? I would appreciate your input.
Also, I was talking to my A&P prof. the other day about what just happened with the people that got accepted into the spring 2006 RN program. She said that it wasn't good to have just 4.0 students and that they are going to make some changes within the next year....has anyone else heard anything about this?
I am taking the Music Appreciation online, actually I think overall it's through Brookhaven. (8 weeks)
There was only 1 test, 50 questions/50 points. 27 daily assignments (around 20-25 +/- questions each). Each assignment is worth 10 points each for a total of 270 points. They aren't really hard, just a pain...lots of reading. LOL There is 1 daily assignment worth 30 points.
The poem and concert papers take place of the real exams (final, etc). They are worth 100 points each.
500-550=A
450-499=B
400-449=C
350-399=D
0-349=F
There are extra credit assignments (3 points each) for a total of 60 extra points if you do them all. Also 2 extra credit concert paper assignments worth 25 extra point each. (Of course, you are out the money for each concert, unless you can find a free one.)
The poem and concert paper assignment must be turned in or you will fail the class.
If you do the extra credit assignments, it's shouldn't be too hard to make an A. However, I'm not sure how it is done for the winter-mester.
Maybe you could e-mail the instructor, and ask him/her to e-mail the syllabus for the winter-mester class to see if you think you could handle it and work during the short term.
As far as the GPA thing, no, I haven't heard anything, but I am not actually taking classes at a school now. I think something should be changed. As in my situation, someone beat me out with 2 C's in 19 credits when I have only 2 B's in 30 credits. (3.77/3.82.....hopefully this Music class will change it to 3.77/4.0!....and hopefully by retaking my Algebra during the winter-mester, it will be 4.0/4.0!!) uggggggh!
...AND! Just because someone gets a 4.0 on 4 classes, doesn't mean they won't be overwhelmed having to take nursing courses & the rest of their support classes. I'm sure there could be many 4.0's drop out, while someone (such as myself) could only have to deal with the nursing courses & go all the way through. (I hope I can...LOL)
Oh well, I'm sure even if there is a change, it won't happen until the Spring '07 semester.

To be honest, I am not sure how many tests there were since I took it back in 1997 and can't remember exactly what we did. From what I do remember, the tests were pretty easy talking about different pieces of art and which era it came from.

Fun,
Thanks so much for all of the information and input. I think I will e-mail the prof. and ask about the "winter semester".
As for the RN program, I am almost following in your footsteps. I am trying to do ALL support classes before I start. I do have the GPA but I would not want to screw that up with trying to do the nursing program and support classes at the same time. I also have some (and will continue to do them) support classes done that are required for UTA's BSN program since I already know that I want to do that as well. It is certainly cheaper to do them through DCCCD than UTA. I will have to do UTA's support classes sooner or later so I might as well get as many done as possible until I get into the RN program at NL or EC.

YW! :) That's what I'm doing. That's why I just took chem 1411, and why I'm taking the music class now. I have all 4 of my english classes, which were required for the BSN when I started out in 1991. So, I used the American Lit as my humanities elective. (B)
However, if I make an A in this music class, you bet I'll use my Music Appreciation for the ECC/NLC humanities elective too!
I'm hoping to take 2 classes during the spring, so I will only have 2 classes left toward my RN-BSN!
I really would love to have them all complete by the time I get my ADN...work for a year to pay back the scholarship/work promise, then have the hospital pay for the upper level nursing courses at UTA! :)
......All of these great plans, no acceptance letter to get the ball rolling.... lol
Soon though, all in good timing............It will happen!
Fun,
Seems like I read a previous post of yours where you said you were doing the Chem 1411 online.....is that correct? If so, how was it? I have never taken an online class before.

No, the chem wasn't online. It was an 8 week accelerated class...Both class & lab every MW, and was 8-2 (We usually got out by 12.) :)
The instructor was fox....really knew the subject & made class fun.

Thanks, I really hope so!!!! As far as the warning sign, it's something new. I have it too. Just keep your nose clean and keep it at 0%! :chuckle
jhr911: I have an HCA scholarship like that, so I can't do anything else. It doesn't get me in any quicker though, nor do they have classes at the hospital, etc. So, I wait, and I take Algebra over again. lol
