Daytona State Spring 2010

Published

Is anyone waiting to hear if they get into Daytona State's spring 2010 program? I have read some posts of people starting this fall and would love to hear from y'all too on how it is going so far. Is it everything you thought it would be? Just some heads up information would be nice. I'm really excited and ready to start! Hope to get my letter soon!:redbeathe

Went to EmployMD yesterday and they do titers, shots and anything else we need for cheaper than the health department. I ended up taking CPR yesterday on campus...im not sure how often they offer it though. It sucked having to pay the 40 for the class and an additional 26 for the book and mask but its done!! I requested Daytona days also...it's definetly been a headache trying to get everything done asap but the quicker I spend all the money I dont want to, the quicker I'll know how much Christmas money I will have left for the kiddos, lol....

Thanks for the tip on EmployMD - I'll go there tomorrow. Dec 18th will be here before I know it. I'd hate to lose my spot for the lack of a shot!

Have yall looked into books...are you going to the jump start thing they are doing in January?...Will we register at orientation? Really if you know anything about the future please share I feel like I know nothing...I just know I am in the program!

I think we find out most of what we need to know on Dec. 4th. Then it is scramble time to get it all together. Don't feel bad - know one else knows anything either!

I am going to the jump start, but I have not RSVP'd yet.

Wonder how many were accepted?

Hello all and congrats on getting in!! I saw this post and wanted to say hi. I'm currently in my 3rd semester and will be done May 2010. I would say that if you can, definately go to Jumpstart. It's a nice program and they try their best to put you at ease for everything that is to come. Plus it's a chance to get a first look at some of the instructors and faculty (i.e. your new family for the next 2 years). They will explain just about everything at orientation so if you can't make Jumpstart, don't panic. They will register you at orientation as well, so that's when you'll find out what campus you got. Again, good luck and I hope you get where you want. I'll see you on campus. Oh, one last thing - I would suggest to join the FSNA (Florida Student Nurse Association). It's a great group and we have a chapter that meets on campus. It's a good way to network, make friends (or tutors) in other classes and most of the time we do certain activites that offer good practice and could potentially get you extra credit towards your final grade for the semester. Who doesn't like extra credit?!? I'm almost positive they'll be at orientation as well. Anyway, breathe and good luck again! :redpinkhe

RSVP'ed to Jump Start...you can do this where you dropped off your green acceptance letter or calling the phone number.......Think its safe to say that we are ALL in the dark right now!!...But after orientation I do know that you can go directly to register for your classes....thus the rush to have everything turned in as soon as possible....as far as books Im clueless..I do know I will be book voucher/loan-ing it though, lol....Im curious about uniforms (colors, any specific brand) and supplies...I would love to get a jump start on getting these for sure!!

All white. Pants and tops. You can't have any other colors on them (like no contrast piping or anything like that)

Thanks a bunch!!!

fuuchan - thanks for giving us some much needed info!

Just wondering, how has your experience been at DSC?

My expirience at DSC has really been great. It's not all puppies and sunshine and there have been many a time I wondered what the heck I got myself into but all in all it's great. The faculty really wants you to succeed. You can talk to them when you need to and as long as you show you're willing to put forth the effort, they are always willing to help you along the way. My clinical expirirences have been awesome as well. I've lucked up and had some awesome instructors and I've seem some interesting things. You'll be glad that you did this in the end.

fuuchan - glad to hear that. I've read so many threads lately about evil instructors that I was beginning to worry. ;)

If I could pick your brain a bit more....

Where did/do you do clinicals?
