Davita/Gambro

Just about everyone knows about the switch to Davita. But is there anyone else out there whose clinic has been "divested" - who will not become Davita? We just found out today that our clinic will be sold to another company , once a buyer has been determined. Apparently, there is a Davita clinic down the street from us which is part of the reason we won't become Davita. We are all shocked. So the search is on for a buyer and other "options" about where to work. There are other Gambro clinics all over the country who has become divested. Our clinic will not close, we will just be under another company...while I start to look at other jobs =P

I have always worked for DaVita...I don't know. Wow... sorry. Good luck...

:angryfire My unit was sold to Davita about 18 months ago, it has not been a happy transition, to say the least. Now the davita buying gambro comes up--I am okay with that. Now the Fed Trade Comm. says in my city Davita needs to sell two units--either a gambro or a davita. So who does davita decide to sell, of course my units, instead of any of the gambro units. I am so angry, we get dragged thru the mud, have to learn davita ways. Every week it is something new or we are gettting to many hours. We have been given more and more responsiblities--ie acute pd plus their call. Then they take overtime away unless you work over 40 hours. I am a part-time person, so I can work till 1100 at noc and not get overtime---that is a kick in the butt. I went to a staff meeting last week and it was just all negative stuff. What happened to the village and we are one big family. Although nobody here likes davita---who do we want to buy us. It could be worse, I've heard fresenius or rcg.

Again I have come to believe that nurses who work dialysis, as well as techs are 'caught in the middle'. The corporations are out to make money for the stockholders. End of that. So, forget the part about the corporate person who calls it a village. He might be nice etc but remember he,also is accountable to someone and that is the stockholders. Make money!!! I watched today one patient who always sits in her chair until she stops bleeding, however, due to more patients, she wsa asked to sit in a w/c until the bleeding stopped to give her chair to another pt. This is the part of getting pts in and out.. and meeting schedule times. I am sure it is hard on the nurses. The RN apologized and thanked her for moving to the w/c.. I thought that was nice, she did not have to. I see more and more every day at the units there is alot of tension and trying to keep one's head above water. Often it is difficult to ask these questions and some of our patients, can't ask or do not have the ability to ask. We do allw e can to ensure they get care that is quality. thx.

I was considering working for a Gambro facility (Peri Dialysis), but was told at my interview the clinic would be sold to an unknown company within 30 days of my hire because of the merger (apparently this clinic is one getting dumped in the merger). I could keep my pay and bennies for one year, but I'm leery about starting a job that's in transition to Goddess knows who. Oh, and in the transition I might have to cover a second clinic (not mentioned in the interview) and take Saturday call and and and.. I think I will just stay where I am - my current position is as a per diem clinic nurse where everyone hates each other :p, but the pay is MUCH better and the hours more flexible. Besides, I know what to expect whereas with Gambro it's all up in the air.

Too bad too, as it seemed like an interesting place to work.

Well, it just might be one or the other. Two centers in our town are being sold (one Davita, one Gambro) and it was just announced today that FMC is buying RCG for 3.5 bill if the FTC approves it.

We were bought by Davita in oct.2005 and it has been nothing but chaos .it's Jan. and all I foresee is more anxiety for everyone.

We were bought by Davita in June of last year. I can't say it's been easy. We have "caught the wave" and feel like we are drowning. There is no time to talk w/ your pt. I constantly feel like I'm saying " I'll be there in just a minute" The pts are upset because the letter given to them said Catch the Wave would allow more time. I't feels like assembly line nursing!!!!

And what is wrong with this picture? The companies are making more money then they can spend, profits are up, just check any stock quote or article that talks about purchase of units. I guess all the talk about patients coming first is not true at all due to our big bosses and their profits. It takes alot for staff remain patient focused when the big boys step in their way

Your facility will probably be bought by Fresenius. I work for them and I like them just fine; but then I don't have anything to compare them to. I'm pretty sure Fresenius bought some other Gambro facilities, and I know for sure they bought out Renal Care Group.

I don't have any advice. I don't plan on staying my job forever. I'm a tech right now but will be starting nursing school in the fall. After that, who knows? I'm pretty sure I'd make more money elsewhere and would like to experience other lines of work. I might return to dialysis after a time and stay there until I retire. I just want to see what else is out there before making that decision.

I love dialysis, but I might find something I love even more. I would encourage you to hang in there. It's very rewarding, and I do think Fresenisus is a decent company to work for.
