I have applied 100s of jobs in nyc but i dont even have one interview yet. NYP has openings over 100, Mount sinai over 300 jobs for nurses but somehow i am not good for none of them!!!!. Nurse recuiters dont answer the phones or emails. what the heck is going on?
Do i have to pay somebody to get a job?
i also applied jobs in NJ,PA as well. Nothing

The job market is crazy is NY, CT, NJ, and PA. Is almost non-existent unless you know people personally. Its not fair, but its the reality of the situation. Good Luck, everyone I know that got jobs as new grads had some type of connection. Use any possible connection you have, regardless of how distant those connections may be. Many people have said that the jobs are in upstate NY, upstate also pays much lower than other areas of NY, however I think its better to get the experience and worry about salary later.

Well as another post today said...Nursing school are popping out new grads as fast as humanly possible, that coupled with the fact that there is not alot of RNs retiring...makes for a bad job market. Sorry to say but nursing is not the 'recession proof' job that everyone thinks that it is. I hate to hear people say that "Oh I will always have a job" Well not in this economy, there are new grads who have graduated a long time ago and have yet to find jobs. When the economy went down, nursing felt it too. Hospitals lost money, and have been reluctant to spend the money to train new grads..I heard some figures that it cost close to 30K to fully train and orient a new graduate. Also to note, most hospitals have been operating in the red....I know NYP said (at least at orientation they said) that they have been in the black despite the downturn of everything. Also, alot of hospitals are really only looking at those with BSNs which for those with an associates really sucks for them. NYP is one of them, altho they do accept people with an associates who are matriculated into a BSN program...It's hard because hospitals want people with experience and im sure its frustrating because you prolly sit there and say well how the hell can i be experienced if no one will give me a shot?..And I totaly get that, I feel bad for alot of new grads who havent been able to secure a job in a long time. My best advice to you is to make yourself as marketable as possible...take any possible certs that would make you look good...i.e PALS,ACLS,TNCC etc...if you have time, take an EMT course if you wanna do ER.....The competition is fierce and you gotta keep thinking about how you can make yourself better than everyone else (duh right?) Well good luck, keep trying NYP..it took me over 13 applications and some 6-8 months before they called me back, just be patient...something well come sooner or later...and also, dont be picky...med/surg is no fun (IMHO) but if it's what they give you then just take it....Good luck in your search.

Some left the city/state, others are working in clinics or homecare.

Is that with an assosiates or bachelors? I have an associate degree and having a hard time also. Thanks :)
It was a bachelor's program. Mind you, not everyone in my class has jobs. But the majority do.
