Weatherford College offers an LVN program. So does Hill College, North Central Texas College, and a few others. You will need to commute if you are in the city of Dallas, but so does everyone else.

LVN/paramedic bridge really means 'bridge to RN.' LVNs and paramedics are eligible to attend completion programs that render then eligible to obtain licensure as an RN upon graduation.

Hello @ms.lovely. How long have you been living in the DFW area? I am just curious. I too, am living in Dallas,TX. El Centro (community college) offers the LVN program but it is very competitive, same as the RN program there. At El Centro, you would have to complete your pre-reqs and then apply for the LVN program which starts in January or August. If you do not want to wait, then you can attend DNI (Dallas Nursing Institute), Concorde College in Dallas or Arlington, or Platt College. I hope that I am not forgetting any schools. All the other community colleges like Brookhaven College and Mountain View only offers the RN route.

El Centro is a very cheap program if you are patient and they also offer financial aid/free bus passes for the Dart bus if you have no other means of transportation. If you choose to pick any of the fast track schools such as Dallas Nursing Institute, Concorde Career College or Platt College it gets pretty expensive (over $20K - $30K) but there is barely a waiting list. Dallas Nursing Institute has classes starting all the time throughout the year. Its entirely up to you on how fast you want to become a nurse. I, myself, am looking to attend DNI because of the program availability and that I do not have to wait on a list just to get in and there are no pre-reqs to take before you get in. The only thing you have to do to get into the fast track schools is past a pre-test which includes math and English and its not hard at all.

I hope this helps you. Holler if you have anymore questions about the nursing programs in Dallas. I am here to help. I've been doing research for some time now and decided to go the LVN route due to waiting list and not having much money to care for my family but your situation could be very different from mine.

Good luck! ;)

Platt College shut down their Dallas campus recently due to low NCLEX pass rates.

Before making a decision, please take a look at this http://www.bon.texas.gov/nursingeducation/edudocs/VN-5YR-passrate.pdf It is a listing of the last 5 year NCLEX-PN pass rates for each LVN program in Texas.

As you can see, the commercial schools have much poorer outcomes. This could be because they have lower entrance requirements and therefore their students are not as prepared. It could be due to lower-quality faculty. Who knows? Just remember, that the goal of commercial (for profit) schools is to obtain a lot of tuition money - not necessarily to produce successful graduates.

There are two different types of LVN programs. Some are based on 'clock hours' - with a seamless curriculum that is just divided by semesters. Some programs are based on 'credit hours'. The clock hour programs don't have any transferable credits, so you would have to start from scratch if you decided to pursue a college degree in the future.

I attend weatherford, its a competitive program also but they prepare you to succeed. Their pass rate is very good as well.

Do you know which was the lowest points that a classmate had to get in the program? I just applied to weatherford lvn program and I'm hoping for the best.
