Hello all! I am a LVN with 3.5 months of experience as a charge nurse at a skilled nursing facility. I am moving to the Dallas area soon and have been applying around online and have yet to hear anything back from any of the facilities I have applied to?! I can not go unemployed for very long, as I already do not have much experience to begin with [just graduated December 2013] and feel that wont look very good! Worried and needing advice.

I have 6 years of experience and moved to the Austin area in November. I had put in at least a dozen applications online with no results prior to moving. As soon as I moved here, I made rounds of local homes and put in paper applications and requested interviews if time allowed for the hiring manager. It still took me 2 weeks to find a job, but employers still seem more likely to grant interviews and hire if you're standing in their lobby. I'm fairly certain most places have tons of online apps in, and you just become another one in the in-box. Being present and accounted for in the facility with an app in hand nets better results, in my experience anyway.
(As an aside, my current employer pulled my resume from an online job search engine I was using and called me. I did have an app in with them online, but wasn't called until nearly 4 months after I submitted it.) Good luck with the job hunt! :)

Two-thirds of all jobs are not openly advertised, and therefore, not online. One you get to the DFW area, you are going to have to pound the pavement and start networking in order to find a job, especially with only 3.5 months of experience. Good luck to you.
