I'm a recent RN graduate and moving to the Dallas area to work in an ICU dept and was wondering what I can expect and possible negotiate as for as hourly pay? Even though I'm a recent RN grad I also have my Paramedic license and well as experience in a Level I trauma area. Might be wishful thinking but I figured my EMT-Paramedic license might be worth more in pay??

They just got a raise, but Parkland is usually the lowest paid in DFW.

Parkland is presently at about par with other hospitals since the raises. (if not a little above actually)

The paramedic license probably wont mean anything pay wise, but if you already have ACLS and other cert courses, those might at some places. The paramedic MIGHT mean something in some ER's however.

You can attempt to negotiate your background and current experience, but I have found they are generally interested only in your "nursing" experience when it comes to negotiating hourly salaries. Good luck!

It is possible that your paramedic could be worth something. Try Methodist in Dallas - they value both RNs and paramedics..and RNs who are also paramedics are a big plus. There the medics are actually able to utilize their skills IN the hospital, with full medical direction from the ER. It may be worth a shot.
