Daley College

U.S.A. Illinois

Hi...I have read a few threads of this school but they seem a little out dated...I just got accepted into Daley College nursing program and am really looking for anyone current in the program to give me some advice please. I would really like to know what the program is like there, how is the staff, school board, student body and ambiance. Apparently the application process changed in Chicago and although I applied to Truman and not Daley I was accepted at Daley . I have to reply by Monday May 9. 2011...PLEASE HELP..I know nothing about this school :( Any advice would help and am hoping things have changed a little from the threads I have read. Thank you for your time and any advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED :)

Hello everyone and CONGRATULATIONS TO US ALL! I am currently in a practical nursing program, and received a call today (that I missed) from the district office, and the voice mail stated that I was accepted into Daley College's RN program, and that I need to return their call with my correct email address so they can email the official acceptance letter to me. I have left voice mails with my email address, and kept calling but no response.

I am very familiar with CCC, having taken the majority of prereqs at Daley. Yes, district has taken over and are sorting out applicants based on their zip codes. For example, if you live near Daley and applied at Truman -your acceptance will be for Daley. The nursing dept in each campus have nothing to do with the acceptance process any more, so they know as much as you do. For those of you accepted to Daley and starting this fall 2011, feel free to inbox me your email address or facebook info so we can support / help each other throughout this program. As a current nursing student, trust me, you'll need it. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL AGAIN!!!!:nurse:

Thanks for the info! Wow...so 600 students were placed in two schools? I hope this doesn't negatively effect the programs, since these schools were only staffed/equipped to handle under 100 new ones at Daley and 200 new ones at Truman. Even if the schools manage to handle it, that's a ton of extra students to toss at the hospitals where we'll do our clinical sites, too! Ughfff, I wish I had more info before making this decision.

And sheez, I wonder what the gpa cutoff was at Truman...by the sounds of it, it was pretty high! Anyway, I guess I'll email and confirm my seat...I'd just hate to take someone else's seat if it turns out the program isn't what I want. I wish there was a little more communication on their part about these "new" programs. *Sigh*

Either way, it's exciting to have the option of going! I quit my full time job a year ago to go back to school so it's a relief to have the possibility of an end-point in sight finally (well, technically, just a start)! :yeah:I guess I'll email Dr. Gurney now and confirm.

Good for you!!! And the more info we learn then you can base your decision on that and decide if you want to stick with it...I'm with you, I wish they would give us a little more info...but I guess time will tell. Here is my e-mail.. [email protected] we should keep in touch in case we have the same schedule...i would love to carpool not only because of gas but safety ;). I hope I get a day schedule, I dont want to be there at night ...LOL.

Hello ScienceGeek & Deevine! Daley was awesome for me except when they added a few prereqs after I was done and ready to appply to the RN before. OOOOH everyone was not too pleased about that. Math 118 wasn't a requirement before, then BAM! We had to take it for the RN program. And many do not know this, but if you didn't take a Cultural Diversity course (I think that's what it is, such as Anthropology and a few others they only accept) -you can not graduate Daley. It is not a requirement for the program, but it's a re'qumnt in order to graduate Daley itself. So, I'll be taking one of these courses this summer to get it out of the way. Also, they are using zip codes to place, this was said by many instructors in orientation, as well as district (they'll tell you one thing and everyone else another, that's another downfall). But overall, the instructors were awesome.

Btw, I created a thread soley for Daley RN students Class of 2013:

Awesome Jess, I'm glad you liked the school...I'm a north side chick so I guess I won't be wearing my CUBS gear over there...LMBO...just kidding. I don't know the neighborhood over there but am taking the chance with it ;)

I also applied to Truman and got accepted to Daley. I was waiting to reply to the email because I never heard about there program and I live so far from Daley, I stay by Wright. I talked to my cousin that has two friends that are in the program at Daley and she told me it's really good  so that made me feel better bout making my decision :D. Congrats to everyone and good luck. Hope to meet you. Does anyone know how much the program cost?

Small world girl ;) I remember you pay by the credits whatever the price is just like in any city college. I hear the books is what burns your pocket.

Ugh, books are so expensive:eek:. I'm nervous but so excited to start school!!! :D

Welcome cenamom and congrats on your acceptance!! Do you have fbook? One of the gals started a page for us...it's a bit easier to communicate on there. :)

HELLO EVERYONE! I was at Daley yesterday and registered for the "new" Human Diversity Requirement we must take in order to graduate from Daley -not the np, and the program was said to run just under $15,000 -not including fees and exams. Btw, I'm taking Humanities 150 online -which is Women's Literature this summer to get that requirement out of the way. Such a bunch of BS.

Hello all I am currently a second year nursing student at Daley.. Here is some information first of all the program has no structure. Sometimes they would come and tell us at the last minute that we have to stay late and if we didnt we would get an F for a lab grade.. I guess there were alot of complaints about that and at the last minute they changed and let the people make up their labs. The lab is short staffed. The way the program is set-up it seems like it is designed for you to fail. So many of my fellow classmates have shed many tears and are afraid to complain because they are scared of retailiation.. The professors dont even try to give you any motivation it seems like they could careless if you passed or failed. We took a HESI test and 70% percent of the students failed and of course it was the students fault because none of the teachers take responsibility for their lack of teaching..The one and only positive side is the lab teachers who are excellent.. BIG KUDOS to Ms. English because she actually cares about the students. I wish someone had told me sooner about this program because I would have transferred when I got accepted. RUN DO NOT WALK TO ANOTHER PROGRAM IF YOU CAN !!!!!

lmao @ "RUN DO NOT WALK TO ANOTHER PROGRAM IF YOU CAN !!!!!"

WOW!!! lol DAley kind of sounds like another city college nursing program.....ummm...:uhoh3: O i think i forgot the name,,,lol:smackingf

But anyway, look at the good side, u made it this far and u didn't GIVe Up!!! Stay strong and ur'll make it to the end!!!:banghead: :nurse::up: Good luck!

Yeah im gonna stay in the program because I only have a year left. I just wish someone woulda warned me and my classmates sooner.. Because you kinda feel stuck.. I hope everyone succeeds in their career choices..
