Hey everyone, I just wanted to start this thread in case some students who are beginning the nursing program at Cypress College (CA) this fall wanted to get to know one another. I applied Fall 2010 and was an alternate this Spring 2011. I've already done my background check, TEAS test and the medical check-up so if anyone has questions regarding these I'd be happy to help :)
Hope to hear from some of you!
yup, that's where I was for the whole semester. It's a great place to start if you haven't had any medical experience (like me). The hospital itself is small, so you can really get to figure out where things are and get to know where everything is and who everyone is. I liked it there, and having 4 days off in a row is amazing! Goto clinical and really try to jump into new experiences. All the cool stuff I got to do I had to be assertive so the nurses know that you want to learn =) I'm actually going to volunteer in their ER soon, so I guess ..yeah, I did like it =)
did anyone of u join the cypress college nursing student association? im debating myself wether to become a member or not. They have a membership fee w/c is a little bit pain in my pocket.. Also, where can i get a student malpractice insurance w/out becoming a member of CNSA?
Heya, I'm in CNSA, and I definitely recommend joining. (not just cuz I'm on it of course) The fee is like what? 40 bucks maybe, and they offer a lot of classes throughout the semester at a cheaper cost to CNSA students. For example, the CPR class they offered was a huge amount cheaper than if you went out and got it through another source. This year they also offered a EKG and Ortho class for a cheap price to CNSA students as well. You also get opportunities to goto nursing conventions (that the school pays for ) if you're a member. So yes, it hurts a little on the wallet, but I really think it's a great deal to look into =)
As for the student malpractice, I don't think you need to be in CNSA to get a cheaper price. I seem to remember getting mine through NSO, and it was like 22 dollars for the year. Hope this helps.
The Iggy one, there are a couple ways you can get the book. There is a one volume and a two volume one, which splits up the book so you don't have to carry a giant mountain everywhere. I got these off amazon because as students you can apply for "prime" status, which is free and gives you free two day shipping.

haha trust me. I always goto my upperclassman for help too. They're super nice =) It's great to have support from people in the program, and it's a great atmosphere. It's not about competition, everyone wants to see each other succeed!
