Does it really matter what port you hook the cvp too?
I am trying to find out what port to transduce a cvp on?

It should be the most distal port (usually the brown port on a triple/quad lumen). If you are using a swan, it's the blue port.

Question about swans... Our ICU hardly ever uses swans! So please inform me what does a swan measure and what is its purpose? And "supposivly" swans are not used as much as they use to, is that really true?? And explain wedgre pressures. we learned them but I need a refresher! Thanx!

The link to pacep is a very good resource for the info you need. See also: http://www.icufaqs.org/
Sign up for that PACEP link and it should walk you through Swan measurements. We use Swans all the time in my unit (we are a CVICU), but we rarely wedge a Swan unless our diastolic pressure is significantly different than the wedge pressure.
