Curry ACCEL BSN program - Jan. 2014 start

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hello, everybody!

Today was the deadline to apply to Curry's Accelerated BSN program (Jan. 2014 start).

I've applied, and now all is left to do is chew on the finger nails and wait for the first week of May to roll around.

Is there anybody else here in the same boat? Check in and say hello!

I applied, too! So nervous. Oh well....a month of waiting to go!

Did you guys have all your pre-reqs done? I had one left, but my human development course didn't transfer, so now I have two!

I have all my pre-req's done, except I didn't realize that the A&P I and II courses had to have a lab component. So, I listed my grades for the actual courses on the application and added a note that I'll be taking those labs during the summer.

I asked Curry professors during the info session about how this might hurt my chances of getting in, since the consensus in the last year's discussion board was that not having all the pre-req's is very harmful to your chances. Both of them said that they do look at all the materials as a whole and that as long as you don't have more than 2 pre-req's outstanding, you still have a chance.

Hi everyone,

I am in the current cohort and want to wish you all good luck! I more than understand the stress involved. I also wanted to share that I was initially waitlisted last May and was so disappointed. I was told that they rarely take people off the waitlist. On January 4th of this year, I received a phone call from ********** that a spot had opened up. I was offered admission 10 days before the program started! The moral of story: never give up hope! I am living proof that sometimes people do move off the waitlist :) Hopefully, you won't even need to worry about that!

Hi, Penny -

I remember your story from last year's thread too! And I also think you were the anonymous "student" admitted to the program that late that *****told me about at the open house in the beginning of January.

Very happy for how things turned out for you! It must have been such a shock for you to completely change your plans on such short notice. But given a choice of nothing or late admission off the wait list, I'll take the latter :)

I've been living and breathing Curry's ACCEL for a while now. May 1st needs to get here already.

Hello all!

Thank you Pavolga for starting a new thread for the ABSN JAN 2014 start! I have also applied and shuffled back and forth through the previous threads from years before. This month has been so nerve wrecking already! Even though I know decision letters will not be going out until the beginning of May, I check my mail everyday as if they have already sent it out! This is madness! Ahahaha. But it is good to know that they are pretty consistent with letting us all know whether we're accepted or rejected! Anyways, good luck to all of you!

Now we have a pretty nice thread going here. Thanks for sharing everyone, it's nice to know we are all going through this madness together. I have four prereqs done, I'm almost done with my fifth, and then that just leaves Chemistry for me this summer. I also remember hearing at the info session that it would be ridiculous to assume that we all had all of our prerequs completed, seeing as how the program doesn't start until January, so I'm hoping that holds true. 20 days... but who's counting? Oh wait I am. Ha. Best of luck to everyone!

Yep. 3 weeks. I believe they do mail the decisions right on May 1. I almost died when I saw a Curry envelope in the mail a week after the deadline. It turned out, of course, to be a confirmation that all of my application materials have been received.

I'm curious what walks of life do we all come from. Can you share a little about your backgrounds?

I have a B.S. in Business with 3.7 GPA, and I am a Marketing Manager for a life sciences company. We have three children, ages 13, 10 and 6, and our family lives just south of Milton. All of my pre-requisites, except for the A&P labs, are done with GPA of 3.9. No previous healthcare experience, though, besides being a volunteer at a hospital. Nursing is something I wanted to do for a long time now, and I'm giddily happy to be so close to the possibility of starting down this path. Scared out of my mind, of course, that I might not get in.

Haha. I thought the exact same thing when that envelope came. I have a BA in Theatre with a GPA of 3.4, and my prereq GPA is 3.9. I was an actor and lived all over the country but moved home to Boston last year to start my prereqs. I currently work in the mental health field at a local hospital. I am married with no kids just yet. I am excited and nervous all at the same time because Curry is the only place I have applied and the only place I want to go. Judging from everyone's feedback it really is the place to go, and May 1 can't come soon enough.

Dave, an actor? Wow! That's one of the reasons I really like the accelerated B.S. programs: you get to meet people with such diverse backgrounds.

How do you like working in the mental health?

I couldn't agree more, this is the reason this program exists, and I really think it's so great that you get people from all walks of life in one tiny cohort. I really like Pshych. It's dfifferent, you have to be really pateint and good with people and it can be really rewarding. I'm not sure if I want to stay in it though, might go onto medical and come back, we'll see, i guess it all depends on where I get a job. And you come from the business/marketing world? What's that like? Any idea which side of nursing you want to go into?
