Current college student, should I go for ADN orBSN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm in my third year of College, and have finally decided that I want to become a nurse. I will have completed 61 hours at the end of my current semester. These are mostly basic classes.( i've taken college algebra, Bio, 3 English classes, and had chem in highschool) Because of this situation I dont know if its a better Idea for me to go straight for a BSN since i'm already in year 3, or if I should go the ADN route.

I'm planning to relocate to the MD, VA, WV area soon, so will be looking into school there. ( any suggestions would be great!)

Which program would be the fastest route for me? I'm wanting to get into the workforce sooner rather than later, and will be willing to go back to school after I get can out and save more money.

Thank you so much for your help, i'm new to this so i'm sorry if i've posted this question in the wrong area.

I would say it depends on the schools and what your local hospitals prefer. I'm in atlanta and the ASN and BSN are the same length. The only difference is that the ASN has less classes, and the hospitals are starting to put BSN required on their sites. You can do the accelerated route if you have all the prepreqs finished and be done in 15-16 months.

I'd say go for the BSN .. but it's your life o_O

You have the makings of the BSN already under your belt. Go for the BSN. You will save time and money and won't have to worry about having to meet education demands of future employers. If you get your BSN now, you will be able to apply to those job listings that say BSN only. Good luck.
