It seems that alot of people are doing nursing for a second career. Just curious. How old is everyone? Who has kids? Is it a mixed group in the professional part of the nursing program (I am still doing pre-reqs)? Where are you living and what school do you plan on going to. BSN or ADN? What area of nursing do you want to go into?
I am 32, will be 33 in August. I am married with 3 kids. I live in Phoenix and will be going to Arizona State University for my BSN. I am doing the BSN rather than the ADN because I would like to be a CNM. Although I am also interested in ICU too.
I am 35 with a husband and 2 kids. I got laid off of my job 2 years ago. I had been there for 15 years. With no educations past high school, I decided to go inot nursing.
I'm in the ADN program in NC. This is my first year, second semster. The first semster, I was one of the top students. But now, I feel like I am struggling.
I have seen the studying tips on another thread, but does any of the "mature" students have anything to add that helps them. I do record all lectures and load them into my PDA and listen to them doing things around the house or driving. I aslo write notes according to the disease process with S/S and interventions.
But I fell like I am missing something. Am I or is this a normal feeling for this part of the program???
I am 58 and just completed the first of a two year program at Weber State In Ogden Utah. I will be 59 when I graduate next May. I will be working as an LPN this summer plus working on my ALCS. I will be the second oldest to graduate from the program. I find it much easier being older except for the physcosocial portion. They do beat you up though. I had total hip replacement surgery over spring break in March. I was doing clinicals two weeks later. My goal is to be an ER nurse by December of 2007. Good luck to all you youngsters.

I am 59 just finished first semester of graduate school going for MHPNP after not doing nursing since 1972 except for a refresher course. l I love the school, and I love nursing. I am doing very well-had to learn APA format-oy-I also had to endure two abdominal surgeries during this. Everything is working out, and I am happy. It was so funny taking my laptop to the hospitalo as a patient-so i could do my course!

I am 36, started school when I was 32. Just took part time pre reqs just to get my feet wet. Married with 2 children. I took off a year in 2003 -2004 to have a baby, and got back in the game the summer of 2004. Just finished second semester of nursing (med-surg). I wanted to go in the OR until I had my rotation. Now I don't know if I like being confined to the OR, it does not seem busy enough for me after being on the med-surg wing for the last 4 months. Hopefully I can graduate in May of 2007 and then go back and get my BSN. I like womens health, med- surg, and the or. Thats where I am leaning right now.
I am going to be 30 on the 16th of July. I am single with no kids and I was offered a place in the Victoria college LPN program. I have a first degree in English language and literature. I decided to be nurse after I observed the nurses working with my mom when she was ill in the hospital. I am very happy and hopeful about this journey through nursing school.I hope to eventually become a nurse practitioner.
