Curious - Has Anyone Applied to UHV / Sugarland / Katy?

Published

Hello everybody,

I see so many people on the forum discussing all the Nursing schools except UHV and I'm wondering...has ANYONE else, besides me, applied to UHV / Sugarland / Katy? I know they just received their accreditation and folks may be skeptical but I'd love to chat with anyone who has applied...I feel lonely. LOL.

Also, if you haven't applied, would you mind sharing why?

I'm still going to apply to UT's Bacc2 program but I applied to UHV because they start in the Spring as opposed to the Summer and I want to finish a BSN as soon as possible.

Thanks for listening and good luck to everyone in getting accepted and/or beginning their programs in their respective schools. It's an exciting time.

Hey Soso - That's awesome news! Congratulations. FYI - UHV just got their RN to MSN program accredited and it seems to be a good program. Here's the link.

Good luck on your future endeavors & congrats again on your graduation!

Yeah I totally agree, it does seem very unclear as in all the e-mails they addressed me as "dear student" and not applicant.

I received my interview invite and accepted it right away. I called the campus today and I was told by one person from UHV student solutions that basically it was an acceptance letter as long as I confirm the acceptance however, the advising speacialist try to make it seem like its an interview. But the whole fitting and registration thing make me think it has to be a formality.

Does anyone know how many applicants were invited for an interview.

I know that 48 will be accepted 24 at SL and 24 at Cinco Ranch.

When I went in to have my unofficial transcript evaluated I was told that 60 were going to be accepted.

But I am told something different each time.

None the less I have been really excited. I would like to hear from others.

Are there any males out there on this board that applied here at UHV?

Pwr0001uhv,

Thanks for that info regarding the info because I just came back from Texas Tech's interview this past Tuesday and THAT was a very intimidating interview :p

A few of us from this board, margaretlw and JSanz will be meeting on 11/30 at 630am for breakfast near the campus. Let us know if you'd like to join us and we can send you the info on the place.

Also, I heard its a group interview...does anyone know how this is and how they will do that specifically?

Thanks and maybe ill see you there!

Yeah that would be awesome. I don't think I can send PM's yet because I just registered today.

But I am pretty sure I can receive the information.

I am going to bet that it is more of an information session/orientation.

And at that time we can decide whether or not the program is for us or not, and that way we know what we're in for.

I was originally in a pre-nursing program at SFA and I thought nursing was not something I wanted to do.

So I transferred to SHSU and majored in Exercise Science and minored in Biology.

I have been fortunate as I was hired by MHH as an exercise physiologist, and I work in Cardiac Rehab(inpatient).

And I realized nursing is definately what I want to do and I have been fortunate to get a lot of great hands-on clinical experience:)

What about you Kst..?

You'll get to make 10 postings earlier than you think so you'll be able to retrive my message :)

I majored in psychology and minored in health. I received my B.S. from the University of Houston just this past May. I guess you could say I've always wanted to do nursing. I was pre-med for a while but I went back to nursing :)

I applied to UTHSC-H and Texas Tech as well but I liked the timeline of UHV and TTUHSC rather than UTHSC's that starts in the summer. I just hope I get in somewhere!

Hey Pwr,

When I went to one of the info sessions I asked a few questions about the NET test and and how many students they were accepting. I was told that they review ALL of your NET scores, not just the Readign and Math and that they were accepting 60 students; 48 @ SL and 12 @ Cinco Ranch.

I also sent an email earlier this week asking if the books online were current and they said yes but not to order anything until you are CERTAIN you have been accepted.

I'm looking forward to getting through this process. The suspense is killing me!

I've applied and will also be attending the interview on 11/30.

I too was told by an acd. advisor that the program will be accepting 48 and 12 at SL & CR accordingly.

However, when I e-mailed the A.A. this week, she replied that they are accepting 48 total with 24 & 24.

So I guess we will find out on the 30th.

My other concern is financial aid....Originally, I was told that I could not receive gov. financial aid(loans & grants) because I already have a Bachelor's degree..

Obviously, everyone in the program has a bachelor's degree so I would think nursing is different and I don't see why we shouldn't at least receive fafsa loans..

So yesterday I called UHV and talked to fin aid, and they said yes you can get financial aid, at least in loans from FAFSA.

I just started working full-time at Hermann which is bitter sweet because yes I like the money but it doesn't give me much time to save up money for the program.

And maybe it's just me but I sure as heck don't have 15,000 saved up seeing as I graduated just over a year ago.

So my question to anyone who knows is... A) are we able to get fafsa loans for sure for this program, and living expenses considering we aren't going to be able to work?

B.) Health Insurance; anyone know where to get insurance while in school?

pwr,

In regards to not being able to receive financial aid because you already hold a bachelor's degree, I believe that it IS possible. However, financial aid can be tricky and is a very selective process. You are eligible so long as you are over the age of 24 and are not considered to be a dependent under someone else.

However, you may be declined for aid because your current salary may be too high. I wasn't able to qualify for financial aid but I was able to apply for a smart option loan from Sallie Mae. That loan was taken out so that I could pay off my last semester of college after obtaining my Bachelor's degree, which was just this past May. Schools want the tuition money, so there is definitely a way for your to pay for the program, you just have to find the right one.

About health insurance, most schools offer health insurance for the students. The other nursing school I applied to actually REQUIRES all their students to have health insurance prior to beginning the program and offers it to students to purchase thru the school. I'm not sure if UHV offers that but that's definitely something we can inquire about during the interview.

Hey Kstar and Marg....(where is marga..?) I thought she had posted on here as well?

I sat at the same table as you two during the interview on Monday. I am nervous as to whether or not I will be accepted or not. I sure do wish I could just have an idea of what to expect.

When do you think we'll here something?

Does anybody here that went to the interview have an idea one way or the other as to wheter or not you'll be accepted?

Thanks please reply:)!!!

Hi Pwr...I was sitting with KStar & Marg @ the same table. While we were waiting to watch the video, one of the advisors said that the admission council was meeting that afternoon and that they hoped to let everyone that was accepted know by Friday or early next week because there were several things that needed to be completed before students were fully accepted. All FINAL acceptance letters will be mailed out on December 15th.
