NLNAC Accredited Nursing Programs

First search for institutions that are accredited by NLNAC. You should have no problem finding a job with a degree from any of those institutions.

Then start looking into the state universities and community colleges... they are the cheaper tuitions, but competition to get in is higher because of the two reasons I just gave you.

Then search information on those schools... whether is through AllNurses.com or paying a visit to the campus and strike up a conversation with some of their nursing students.

Private schools are easier to get in, but as you know... they are much more expensive.

Does anyone know if the RN programs at CUNY are good? More specifically, Kingsborough CC and College of Staten Island and York College? I really do not have the money to pay for a private school, so I was hoping to aquire a BSN at CSI, or maybe an AA at kingsborough. What do you guys think? Can I get a job from a degree at KCC?

City University of New York produces some of if not the highest number of nursing school graduates in New York City.

While each program has their strengths and merits Hunter-Bellevue is one of the top rated nursing progams in NYC, NYS and the USA.

For the community colleges/ADN programs the College of Staten island ranks very high but they do not award an undergrad BSN. Even though the college is now a four year degree granting insitution their undergrad program is strictly ADN. Their upper division RN to BSN program is open to licensed registered nurses who hold associate degrees or diplomas in nursing.

Basically all CUNY programs provide good to excellent preparation for the NCLEX and a career in nursing. Proof of this is the huge applicant pool trying to get into these programs. There isn't a CUNY nursing school that isn't beating back applicants with sticks! *LOL* So while they may be *inexpensive* it is by no means a cake walk to be formally admitted into a CUNY nursing program.

Plan on having a minimum of 3.0 (3.5 or above is better) overall GPA in the pre-nursing sequence. For some programs the minimum required grade for sciences in both pre-nursing and nursing is 3.0 as well. You will also have to have decent NLN, SAT or whatever other standard testing each program uses for nursing applicants as well.

Fairly old thread, but its been awhile! I have since taken the Pre clinical sequence at Kingsborough community college. At Kingsborough, I got an A+ in Sci 25, A+ IN Psy 11, B+ in Bio 11, and a B- minus in english from Baruch College. I sent in my application, and am taking the NLN on monday. However, I have a few questions:

1)I have a rather interesting story. I was originally a student at another Cuny college, specifically baruch, for one year. I did terribly at Baruch college, barely keeping a 2.0 GPA. I ended up failing a number of classes at Baruch, specifically english and Bio. However, the reason for my poor grades were due to the fact that my mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney cancer, in which she eventually passed away. The drama from all that caused me to do so poorly. I eventually left baruch for KBCC, and am pulling an overall 3.6-3.7 gpa at KBCC. I had attached a letter to my clinical application explaining why I did so badly, my mothers eventual death, but am worried the program will not accept me due to my past grades.

What do you guys think? Thanks!!

I think you will be okay, just kick the NLN's butt! Aim for a 120 or better .. Try to do well in all sections especially the English! I'm a second year nursing student at kbcc's program, if you have any questions feel free to ask =]

Hi nursingstudentjess, you really think so? I recall on the KBBC nursing page, it states that if you fail or withdraw any of the pre clinical classes, you may not be accepted into the program. I had recieved an F in english at baruch, and a WU at baruch for bio (again, due to the passing of my mother).

Ugh, I hate this. lol.

I was also a transfer student .. Took A&P at CSI didn't do so well (got a D). When my grades were transferred they didn't transfer A&P and I took bio11 at KBCC, finished my pre-reqs and got in the program my first shot!

Ah, nice. Well, fingers crossed. I really dont know where else to go if I dont get into this program...
