CUNY LEHMAN - Accelerated Program Questions

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello !!!!

I just found out Lehman has an accelerated nursing program. Has anyone on this blog applied? Are you currently an accelerated nursing student at Lehman? Anyone completed or preparing to take the Pre-Nursing Exam?

Still waiting. Has anyone got any news?

I just got accepted to the accelerated program but I'm having a lot of difficulty finding information about it. How many people were in your classes? Did you like your professors? Are you happy you went there? I got into UW Madison in Wisconsin and I also receive instate tuition there. It has a brand new nursing building, it's affordable... but it's not accelerated and it's in Wisconsin. I'm having a hard time deciding.

Congratulations! Have you made a decision?! I am also having trouble finding more info about the program-Any luck? I plan on applying next year. Would you mind sharing your some of your background-GPA, how you studied for the HESI exam, Work Experience...It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know this is old, but for anyone looking through this that may have questions, here's some info.

For fall 2013, the lowest GPA they accepted was a 3.7 -- I don't know about fall 2014. There's really no specific cut-off for the GPA because it's based on what the applicants as a whole obtained. Basically try to aim for a 4.0 and you should be okay.

The class size is small compared to the generic program. The 2013 - 2014 class was the largest with 20 students (only 13 finished). You're mixed in with generic students for the first semester, you're only with other accelerated students for intersession, and then spring and summer you're mixed in with RN-BSN students (except for the 2 clinical classes in the spring).

Clinical groups are limited to 10 students each for everyone. If someone in your clinical group fails, then you continue with whatever amount is left. We lost 3 students, so we finished with 7 in our group.

Studying for the HESI A2 isn't so bad. Just get a HESI review book and go over questions. Refresh yourself on the A&P and microbiology because there will be questions on that. The math part is relatively easy. I only studied for a couple days before the exam and scored a 90 -- don't make yourself crazy by studying too much.

Work experience doesn't really matter, but most people (especially accelerated) all came from non-healthcare related careers. Many worked in business or finance, social work, law, teaching, even engineering.

The professors are all pretty good and very knowledgeable. Some are better than others, but I only had 1 that was absolutely AWFUL!!!!!!! She taught med/surg 2 in the summer and was tossed in there because the original professor resigned a couple weeks before the end of the spring semester leaving us with no one to teach the class. She used an old text book, her slides weren't even hers, and she didn't teach...just read word for word from the slides. Other than that, the faculty is pretty good.

hi! thanks for the info. i am applying for accelerated fall 2016. my GPA is 3.85 and HESI 89. Any thoughts if that GPA will be high enough or it really just depends on the year? I wasn't planning on applying to any back up schools but maybe I should?

Hi hgoldwater,

I am planning to apply to accelerated program for Fall 2016 as well. My science pre req is 3.7 though so I do not know if that's high enough to be honest. Still have to take organic chem (I am registered this semester) and I do not take HESI until late February so I hope I do well. From what I read on this site it seems 3.8 is the cut off so you might be good but I have heard as low as 3.7 and high as 3.9 as well. I am also applying to traditional program as well since I don't know if my grades are good enough and I do not really have a back up school either, although I may apply to Downstate which is also very competitive.

Can anyone explain the requirement of being a matriculated student? I will be applying for the Fall 2017 accelerated program, and I'm in the process of completing my last prereq at Hunter. I chose not to apply to Hunter's program because of the program length and the additional prereqs they require.

Do I need to take classes at Lehman to be considered matriculated? I applied for Spring 2017 general admission just to get it out of the way for the nursing application.

Matriculated (aka full time day) students are those whom have formally applied and been accepted at a college, university, school......

You need to fill out an application for CUNY and select Lehman as your school. You have to have that CUNY app filled out before you can start the accelerated program

Hi,

can anyone give me insight into what can count for the prereq human growth and development. I am enrolled in a lifespan PSY201 course but I am not sure if this will be acceptable and no one has gotten back to me from Lehman's nursing department :(

if your at lehman already they are very particular that you take their required prereqs especially since its a NUR class. 268 and 269 both have very limited windows to get. If you didnt obtain the class the day it was opened you gotta wait until next time its given. to get the class you HAVE to get permission directly from the nursing dept in person. If you get there when they open up you are usually in and out if you get there late you may have to wait a few hours. usually by 3pm or even earlier all the classes have been given out.

Any one accepted with a 3.57 science GPA? To lehman im finishing up my first degree and want to do the accelerated/generic program for fall 2019.

I got a B in AP2

A in AP1

CHEM114/115 B and B-

Aiming for A's in Micro and chem120/121

And to score high on the HESI, im already studying

This summer i completed 4 classes on top of AP2 receiving a A and a 3.9 gpa cumulative i would hope my determination and record will help, im a little nervous about applying next year

THANK YOU
