I am writing a paper and I need information on cultural care for hispanic newborns. I have looked EVERYWHERE!!! I picked this because I figured there would be a TON of info....yet none! I've googled everything I can think of. Anyone have any advice or websites they have used or journals....anything online! Much appreciated!

I do know that it is important to get the parent's view of circumcision because not very many Hispanics circumcise their baby boys. (about 29%) I also think that depending on their religion, they may want their priest to visit. Most Hispanic women breast feed their newborn and maybe that is because of cost issues with formula, so you might want to ask them about that...whether they can afford formula or prefer to breast feed. Social services would be helpful for a first time mother, as many "old wives tale's" are passed down from one generation to another.
I am not sure if these are the type of things you are looking for. I am only second semester, but I am just going by what happens in my family at the birth of a child.
Not much consideration was given to me at all regarding culture, so I am not sure what more needs to be done above teaching the client how to care for the infant and also convincing them of procedures that should be done.

There is nothing different associated with cultural care than any other infant. There are not things that you are not to do any different from the care of any other infant. You always want the parents input on everything first.
Same questions should be asked of the parents of any infant.
When is your paper actually do?

Family is a biggie in Hispanic culture. Expect and allow for many, many visitors. Also, I've noticed a trend of Hispanic families attaching red ribbons/thread onto the cribs of sick newborns. I do not know the significance of the red ribbon/thread, but I have seen it many times.
Having visitors in the room is not an issue and does not affect the care of the infant. Cultural care does not include visitors but specifics as to what would have to be done or not done directly influencing the care of the infant.
There are also many other cultures that have a large number of visitors at the bedside.
And if the baby is ill and remains in the nursery, then visitors are going to be limited as well to the baby's bedside. Again not having anything to do with culture.
Nothing of what is mentioned above is what an instructor would expect to see on a paper with this topic, that is the point that I am trying to make here.

I would suggest you go to the source. Do you know any Hispanic people,or Hispanic nurses ? How about hopping on over to one of the forums in a state that has large numbers of Hispanic populations and pose your question to the nurses there. I am thinking of states such as Texas, California, New York,Florida. There is also an OB/GYN forum on here, you may want to go there. Hope this was helpful. Also inquiring minds would like to know,so please come back and share your new found knowledge with us.
Thank yo all so much! I hate to say this, but I need an actual reference. The paper is due next thursday, and I just can't seem to find anything! You would think with all of the cultural sensitivity stuff out there, this would be easy to find. Alas, it is not
if you type into your search engine latino women and cultural beliefsabout pregnancy and childbirth,I think you may find a wealth of information, with references I did read and learn quite a bit myself.
