Hi all! I didn't see a thread for the CU Denver 2021 Traditional program starting in Summer. I am a Boulder grad and would love to get some insight on this program from either alumni, current students, or applicants like myself!
I am hoping to receive an interview. I love that this program does an interview process in order to get to know each applicant on a more personal basis. Anyone out there also looking forward to hearing more about this program?

Wow, you have a great GPA! Did you have any backup schools? You seem like a great candidate in my opinion. Not sure what magic qualification this school was really looking for.
I'm going to apply to Denver School of Nursing next, applications open on Feb 15th for Oct start. There's a HESI exam requirement, and several starting slots for each year, I think 4! They don't require recommendation letters and likely they won’t give a group interview. All factors that let me believe the judgements from this program are based fairly on dedication and career relevance instead of skewed heavily towards social impressions. (Jumping through hoops, and singing for your dinner...why are programs like this?)
I have a feeling it wasn't all about GPA, qualifications, or medical background. I'm honestly left with the impression that the deciding factor was some kind of personality contest. The Casper exam should have told me that from the beginning. (Unless someone accepted can prove me otherwise...do you all have 4.0's? Are you all professional speaking extroverts? What kind of magic do you obtain?)
The rejection letter helped me realize some positives though. It helped me realize that I am not a social butterfly (‘I’m here to get the job done, and the right people love me for that!) as well as that sometimes advertising that you’re ambitious can come back to bite you. I almost wonder if they wanted someone humbler, someone of a more “this is my dream to get accepted” type. Getting a BSN for nursing isn’t my dream, it’s a small steppingstone along the way for bigger things. I talked in the interview about opening my own practice for low-income individuals one day. That’s basically saying I don’t think Hospitals are good enough. Maybe I stepped on some toes. It's hard to tell which random way people are biased. How can we guess that? And the other thing that I realized, is that getting accepted into that program would have meant no Summer break. I’ve been working hard in school every single semester for years; I’ve never had a break. If I got accepted into Denver school of Nursing, I would get an extra long Summer break! I haven’t had that since I was in grade school. When one door closes, another door opens, just remember that. And if that line doesn’t work for you, try this one: “When one door closes, talk *** about it.” (my favorite version)
I hope everyone ends up in the program that is TRULY right for them individually. Someone with a 3.7 GPA and several medical certifications absolutely deserves to be a Nurse. No doubt there.

I am so sorry! I too got a disappointing email this evening. I am hoping this is just part of our story and journey. I am already looking for what my plan B is. I wish you all the best!
I'm curious, do you have a killer GPA? They at least wait-listed you! You've got some secret magic in you, obviously! I'm sure you did interview really well, as well as your group. Makes me curious about those that got accepted though, what did they do different? I heard someone in my group interview use everyone's name in conversation, and I thought to myself that it sounded polite and smart. They also gave people small pats on the back before they changed the conversation, like "That's a good idea, Tim...to piggyback off that..." I'm sure stuff like that makes people look like a team-player, or a political speech writer. LOL
And thanks for the sentiment of course ? Plan B will soon become a better fitting Plan A.
All the positives about a different path just take a little bit of time to see.
Hi ZoneDelta!
You know, I don't have a killer GPA ... I think 3.4 or maybe even a little less. I have my CNA license but sadly didn't get to use it in the years it was active. However, I do work in healthcare just not in direct patient care. I am hoping that more hands on patient experience is the secret. Is that something you have?!
All of my group members and I were very respective and conversational! We definitely highlighted each other's good points and added our own opinions too. I really thought we did well as a group! I wonder if any of them got in, I hope they did.
My big hang up is the other pre-requisites for the other Denver nursing programs. I would have to take at least 3 more $ out of pocket pre -req classes (which I have already done) to be considered for those. It's starting to cost me a fortune just to apply! I am hoping plan B is more hands on experience. I will say, it is clear we have determination and don't give up easily from rejections. That alone will make us great nurses! ?
Hey everyone!
like many of you, I too was shocked and disappointed that I wasn’t accepted. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I was at least waitlisted, but even so I find myself asking the question, “what more could I have done?” GPA of 3.54, over a year of direct patient care, prior military, and a minority. Definitely thought the interview went well too but perhaps not as good as I thought. Very humbling, its got me questioning my purpose in life for sure, but lemme tell all y’all this. Don’t ever lose hope for even a second, and no one on this planet can stop you from being great! Tell it too yourselves everyday. I wish all of you the best in whatever course of action you decide to take, and those who were accepted congratulations seriously! Y’all earned it!
I'm sorry to hear you didn't get accepted. I know how hard it can be believe me! If anyone needs to reach out or wants advice, I am here. I am also an Air Force veteran so I know the life and how hard it can be. Don't lose hope, if you're motivated to be the hardest worker in the room, don't lose that driving factor. Reach out if you want.
All those who weren't accepted, don't give up!
Hi all! What a challenging process it was to do everything that the application process required. We all should pat ourselves on the backs for everything we did! No doubt we were in good company of so many talented applicants. It's unfortunate that there were not enough spots for all the qualified applicants.
I was accepted and am curious about connecting with others who will be starting in Summer 2021. Any interest in someone starting a facebook group or finding some other way to connect?

Hi,
Congrats on your acceptance!
I was accepted also. No doubt the competition was rigorous! I feel like all of us were strong candidates but unfortunately there's only so many seats. I'm definitely relieved that the application period is over, what a stressful process!
I don't spend much time on fb but I'm interested in connecting!
