Published

Hello All! I wanted to start a new thread for all of the Connecticut Community College Fall 2016 applicants. The deadline is a month away!! Lets share our scores and hope that all of our hard work and dedication will pay off!!!

Nursing GPA 3.55

Teas 74.7

AP 1 B

i wish I had done better on the Teas and in AP, but whats done is done and all I can do now is pray! I have selected Norwalk CC as my first choice and Gateway as my second. I am excited to hear from you all !I hope we all make it!!!

Lol I want it during the day so if I get evening I wonder if we can switch with someone...hmm

I would not be against that hehe. Are you bringing your family to orientation? I am thinking about it. I would like to bring them so that they know how much help and cooperation I need from from them in these next 2 years in order to graduate. I looked at the slides I think that it def makes that point that school is a job and I will need to balance school and my outside life in order to succeed.

Who went to orientation? What was your impression of the lab and clinical schedule? How do you plan to balance your schedule this fall?

I went! The schedules are crazy! My clinical and lab are during the day. Any schedule though gives you little to no opportunity to work, unless you do evenings, and even that will be tough. I am currently working outpatient for a hospital and had a few interviews last week for inpatient positions. I plan to do 24 hrs, 2 12 HR 7p-7a shifts at night. I don't see where else I can fit in work. This all feels so real now. It'll be a handful but I'm excited!

I went to the Capital orientation in June, and the class and lab schedule seems fine: class is Monday and Friday 9-11, but lab is 8-330 Tuesday and Wednesday. The problem is, we don't know what we're going to be getting assigned yet for clinical rotations...could be days, could be evenings, could be a few spots on weekends. We won't know 'til closer to the end of September. Basically we were told, "We sympathize; bills need to be paid and food needs to go on the table. But if you want to be successful in this program, you need to find a way to work as little as possible." 😕

Hi, I am keeping my fingers crossed I can get into NVCC. Taking the TEAS hoping to get a 90 know a tall order, but NVCC feel is super competitive.

My friend starts at Norwalk in the fall. Maybe someone can shed some light on this. My friends schedule for Norwalk is insane and looking at the course schedule online its crazy. I also looked at Northwestern that offers a very inconsistent schedule. Might be exaggerating a bit here, but my friends schedule is something like M-F 8a to 1p, 1p to 430p, 630p to 10p, and then has to attend classes on certain times. Class times was picked by a lottery to be fair.

Where at NVCC its very structured and linear. Why would nursing programs not do that?

Going to research Gateway.

Applying 1st choice NVCC 2nd Northwestern 3rd choice Gateway.

Also anyone hear that you can take BSN classes during the program? Friend at Norwalk said NVCC and Norwalk have some program where can complete BSN classes during your associates. You can graduate with your BSN! I almost am thinking of doing it if true, but defiantly have to have a structured class times like NVCC, ha.

Thinking after looking at class schedules applying to Three Rivers an hour away a more structured class schedule like NVCC.

Heard that 2017 students at NVCC will be the first nursing class in the new medical building

Class entering in 2017 appoligies

I am attending Norwalk, for me most of my classes run through the mid day. Right now I am taking one class that requires a Lecture 2X a week for 2 hours and clinical and Lab 6 hrs each. Gateway has evening classes.

I think you can take a few science and liberal arts classes towards you BSN like genetics but I haven't heard anything about taking BSN level nursing classes. I can't see how you can graduate with a BSN if your in community college because our nursing classes need to be taken in sequence. For example, you need to take NURS 101 before you take NURS 102.

I found more information on taking BSN level classes during you associates. At NCC, you can take Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) coursework and instruction on the NCC campus. But the nursing Courses are only open to students holding an RN license. So, you need to first finish your AAS and get you nursing license to take these RN-BSN classes.

did you start the program that same year in the fall or did u have to wait till the following year fall class
