CSUSB Winter 2015 Applicants

Published

Hey everyone! :)

I understand that me posting a forum about the Winter 2015 applications is really early. However, I am having serious doubts about being accepted into the nursing program.

God willing, I will be applying with a 3.64 GPA and my TEAS score is not definate at the moment. I am taking the exam on June 20th at Loma Linda.

I thought we could all connect here and post our stats. I know that I am not the only one freaking out about now.

P.S: Could someone give me advice for the TEAS test? I've been studying the ATI study guide and also bought the McGraw Hill book. I just feel like giving up now. :dead:

Hi!

I may be applying to the winter program if I don't get into the fall program at csub!

I got an 85 on the teas. I will be retaking it if I don't get accepted to csub.

My advice is to buy the ati book. Also to purchase one of their practice teas tests online. It was 40 bucks for a test that you can take twice. The questions were harder than the real test and you really get a feel of what the real exam will be like! Make sure to go over your reading and language!

I got 90 percent in math and 87 in science but scored low on the reading and language because I ran out of time and because it's so hard! :( So I probably could have gotten a better score if I would have studied more grammar and stuff! Don't regret how you do on your test like I do! Make sure to google language usage examples and take little quizzes. Everything helps! Good luck! :)

I'm suuuuper freaking out, fall 2014 applicants are barely getting their acceptance letters & I'm curious as to what the average scores are for this year. I'm applying for winter 2015 though and currently at 3.77 GPA and 80.3 on the teas but I'm planning to retake it. Not sure if it's good enough >.

I'm not applying anymore to this school I got into csub! Good luck everyone! :)

And if I were you I would try to retake the teas test again if you can.

Hey everyone,

I am applying to Winter 2015 and I am also freaking out!

I have a 3.60 GPA and TEAs of 76% that I am retaking in September. Cutting it close I know.

Hey guys! I was admitted to their fall 2012 quarter. Thank God only one year left for me! Lol. I just wanted to introduce myself and give you guys my stats and hopefully it will ease you anxiety! I was admitted with 3.83 GPA, 84% TEAS, letters of rec x2, county of residence and information session. Honestly everyone's stats sound super good.I think my of you won't have problems getting in. Plus winter isnt as competitive as fall. Hopefully I eased some of your fears. If you have anymore questions just post or PM me! Good luck!

Hey DarkBluePhoenix, Congrats on almost being done:)

I feel pretty hopeful about getting in this Winter quarter but I am still very nervous. Anyway I am just curious how was your first quarter was as a nursing student? I'm worried about the finances because I receive some FinAid now, but I also work 3 days a week. It is possible to work on the weekends during Nursing School or is it too much to handle with studying? I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect lol any advise would help. Thanks!

Hey there and thanks!

First thing first is to try to be optimistic (but realistic). Don't down yourself until you hear anything! You never know what is going to happen!

Unlike a lot of other schools, if you make it into CSUSB, we are on a quarter system and because of that each quarter is a whole rotation. First quarter is all fundamentals. In lecture, you learn about the nursing process, ADPIE, as well as basic bedside care of patients, HIPAA, safety and such... Its honestly a really easy quarter if you have some healthcare experience under your belt. If you are new to this field it might seem a little intimidating but don't worry you will do fine. As far as clinical, it is pretty much all CNA work but you do nurse assessments, help with certain procedures and stuff like that. And yes, you may have to write care plans....get a good careplan book if you can.

As far as working, it is definitely doable! I have worked as a CNA before and throughout the whole program and the last quarter I obtained another CNA job (I am crazy right?) I would say part time work is doable. UNfortunately, you will have class Monday-Thursday most likely for the first year (unless something has changed). If you can work fridays, saturdays, and sundays then I think you will be fine. Just make sure you set time aside to study. I always would get to campus early and study for a bit before class in the library (4th floor has some comfy chairs). It is really hard to study at home if you have family. If you work a desk job or something where you have down time, you can always sneak some studying in there too. I try to also study on days before I work since i dont come in until 1900 and leave at 0700.

Also, and probably most importantly, set time for your self aside. Don't let the program over take you. See friends and family a few times a month if you have the time. Remember, you need to keep your sanity for yourself and your patients lol.

I think I pretty much covered everything! Oh and I will try to watch this thread and hopefully I will see you all at orientation. :)

I am here if you have more questions!

Thanks so much. That really helps. I will probably end up just working on Saturdays .I'm a registered dental assistant so I hope the first quarter goes smoothly since I am somewhat familiar with what you mentioned. Thanks again :)

Hey guys!

I am applying for Winter 2015. I came on here to compare stats and get a little motivation since I'm nervous because CSUSB is the only school I'm applying to. My GPA is a 3.89 and my TEAS is an 80% although I'm retaking it in week. Also, I wanted to know how they determined proof of residency?

Hey,

I think you have pretty good stats on getting into this winter quarter. Your GPA is pretty high and your TEAS is pretty good too. I am also retaking the teas this coming Saturday at CSUSB but I feel like there is not much more I can study because I have been studying for so long lol SO good luck to you.

Also for the proof of residency I believe they just use your current address. There was no additional form to submit.

Thanks for replying! I just hope everything works out like I've planned. I'm retaking my TEAS the 26th at Loma Linda because I was taking Anatomy and Physiology 1&2 this summer and needed more time to study. Good luck tomorrow!! :)
