CSUS Sacramento State Fall 2018

Published

Effective Fall 2018, Sac State is changing their Selection Criteria for Admissions into the BSN program. I've created this thread for those folks that are planning on applying Fall 2018 to ask questions, share their thoughts, etc. I'm interested to know if the changes make it easier or harder to get accepted. I myself was planning on applying Fall 2018 but may decide to apply Spring 2018 if it's "easier" before the new changes are put into effect.

The selection criteria changes include NEW:

 Admission Point Assignments

 Minimum Admission Point Total

 Minimum Science GPA

 Adjusted Nursing GPA

 Standard Units

 Repeat Policy

 TEAS Points

 Optional Criteria Points

I'm concerned that the changes will make more people competitive than there would have been before. When I went to the advising session she said that toe breakers would be decided by "true GPA" value but only if the overall score (GPA/TEAS/Extra pts) was the tying factor.

Hey everyone, I'm also waiting to apply for FALL 2018 and have a couple concerns with the new criteria!

Since there is a new "Adjusted" GPA, will it have any negative impact if we do choose to omit a grade? For example, I have all As for pre and coreqs (with micro in progress at the time of application) but a B for the cultural-societal Corequisites requirement. If I choose to omit that class, i could have 4.0 but if not, I will still have a GPA of 3.912 (NOT INCLUDING MICRO). For instance, if it boils down to me and another applicant at the time of selection, let's say they have the same GPA but chose not to omit their B in the same class, would it make them more likely to get in versus myself since they would have included all grades making it their "true GPA"? Sorry if I sound confusing guys!! Hope you understand what I mean!

No, there is no penalty for omitting a grade, so you definitely should! Point totals are the first line of filtration for acceptance and only when there is a tie will they then look at the non-adjusted GPA's of applicants as a tie-breaker (and if even that is the same there are a couple other tie-breakers they'll look at).

I am planning on applying for Fall 2018. If I read it correctly you can repeat classes over 7 years old and it wont count against you? I have classes that are 9 and 10 years old I retook. If you have too many repeats are you disqualified or do they just use your first grade?

If I dont bomb my A&P final next week ill have a 3.9 adjusted GPA when I apply and I am taking my TEAS in January. I can get points for the economic background and first generation college student but I am not sure about the health related work experience. I work as a breastfeeding peer counselor with WIC and my boss said she will write whatever she needs to if they will count it as healthcare related work experience. I am nervous, it is so competitive and this is my first time applying in california.

Wow! Knowing how competitive the program is currently versus before I know many will use that to their advantage for sure. Thanks!

Hi all! I will be applying with 74 points.

GPA: 4.0 (adjusted and unadjusted)

TEAS: 91.8

Health-care experience: YES

I am not sure how this will compare. I had 82 points when I applied for Spring 2018, but that wasn't enough. Some have said their points increase with the new criteria, but mine didn't. It's going to be another long semester of waiting!

Actually, in some ways it's more competitive than the current system. You are only allowed 3 repeats total, with only one of them being a science course. Additionally, third attempts will not be considered.

With the current criteria, people can retake any and all classes at least once with no penalty.

With this new system, even a student that has retaken 4 classes is now ineligible. And this is the case for the vast majority of applicants.

As a former student, I heard that the School of Nursing received complaints from other faculties about pre-nursing students retaking courses to apply for nursing school. I really don't blame them to voice their concern because some classes could be a challenge to get in, especially the science courses. This could be the reason to impose the limit.

Hi Mom.to.3.boys (I have 2 girls and one boy lol)... I'm just curious about your original point total. Shouldn't it have been higher than an 82? The 4.0 is 50 and the 91.4 on your TEAS test would have given you a 33. I'm curious because I have almost the exact same criteria that I will be applying with for the Fall semester!

Hi Tahnee23! I applied for the spring semester with a lower gpa than 4.0. I have been slowly retaking courses that were extremely old for current knowledge and better grades. Now, I have a 4.0, which gives me the 74 points.

Hopefully I can get in with 77 or 81 points.

GPA: 4.0 (omitted 2 grades) = 50

TEAS: 84.8 = 11

Optional Criteria: Qualifies for all 20 (maybe not low income) but since my EFC=0 so I might get it who knows??

TOTAL = 77-81?

I don't know how good my chances will be because last semester's point cut off was 84 so I dont know what kind of applicant pool this semester will have.

84 points based on the old criteria though. That would probably equate to about 68-70 for the new criteria. I think your point range will absolutely qualify you. I'm going to be applying with 77 points and I'm pretty confident I'll get in with that.

GPA: 4.0 with 2 grade omissions (50 pts)

TEAS: 94.0% (23 pts)

Optional: 100+ hrs. healthcare experience (4 pts)

Still, kinda blown away with those spring '18 stats. That set a whole new standard for an already super competitive program. Regardless, I think your points and mine will easily be in the qualifying range even with those ridiculously high projected stats and especially if they're more akin to the application pools prior to spring '18.

Hey there!

I'm applying for fall 2018 with 80 points.

GPA adjusted: 4.0

Non-adjusted: 3.91

Teas: 93.3

Extra criteria: 8 points

Hopeful! But based on the point jump for spring 2018, I don't know how to feel í ½í¸©í ¾í´ží ¼í¿¼
