I'm sure there's lots of you out there applying to the CSUN 2011 ABSN program. Just wanted to get the conversation rolling for those of us who are in the process. Anyone else think 2 pages is too short for the personal statement?
Hi Christina and Everybody,
Yes, my interview went quite well, but the question was a surprise to me! I was asked to give an example of a time when I had to logically think through something. It seemed to me to be a very open ended question, one that could cover a wide variety of responses. I had to think for a few seconds (which seemed like an eternity to me!) but I came up with something. There were three faculty members in the room, and they were very warm and accepting. I felt at ease there. They first asked me a couple of yes or no questions and then that one "surprise" question. Then I was asked if I had any questions for them. And that was the end! It took about 10 minutes. But I feel quite good about it. Please let all of us know about your experience! And I wish everybody the best of luck!!
Doggymama23, Congratulations on your interview, it sounds like it went really well. And thanks about the info on the questions they asked. I also read that they sometimes ask what specific strength you possess or what makes you unique. Did they ask you that? Well, again congrats and hope to see you in the summer or fall : )

Same with me. But try not to get too discouraged. This is an incredibly competitive program. Only 18 students are selected per semester and there are hundreds of applicants. And CSUN's Nursing Program might be looking for specific things in applicants. I mean, my GPA is really high, and I think I wrote a great essay, but I don't have any nursing experience, so that might be why they passed over my application.
Did you apply to any other schools? I did, and I got in, so I'm glad I have some other options. What about you? You can definitely still achieve your goal, even if it may not be with CSUN!

Thanks for the encouragement! I applied to other schools for entry level masters and other ABSN programs. I did receive an acceptance from USD but I am hoping to get into a more affordable school. I am still waiting to hear back from the schools I interviewed at. Where did you get in? and what other programs did u apply to?

I've been following this forum for a long time, but have just never signed up for the site to make posts. I applied for CSUN's Summer and Fall 2011 ABSN program. My overall GPA is 3.84 and I think I wrote a pretty damn good personal essay. Anyway, I'm kind of bummed because I didn't get a call for a phone interview. I know they say that you can still get accepted without a phone interview, but I honestly just think they say that so people will quit calling and e-mailing them asking if that means they didn't get accepted, etc. They get annoyed by phone calls. I could be wrong though.
CONGRATS to all who got interviews!!! That's awesome! Has anyone gotten a call today? Maybe not all hope is lost just yet. Lol!
Take care,
Christina
