CSULB FALL 2020

Published

Hello. I wanted to create this forum for people who are applying to Cal State Long Beach for Fall 2020. This is a place where we can compare and discuss statistics between us, as well as ask questions regarding the program.

Good Luck to you! Just FYI CSULB goes by Pre-Req GPA and Science Pre-Req GPA.... not cumulative GPA like CSULA does... lol

you as well :) and oh yea that’s right! In that case 4.0!

Are you guys leaning towards the semester or trimester program? I'd be happy to be in either but I'm torn! I think trimester would be a better option for me because I don't have a car, so it'd be much easier for me to travel to just LB Memorial than to multiple hospitals, but I'm worried that the trimester program would also burn me out.

I’m actually not sure what the difference between the two are besides one has summers and is only 2.5 years and the other one has summer breaks but lasts 3 years. I actually was reading that we do not have a choice between trimester and semester, and that whoever they decide will be based on “lottery” basically meaning completely random. I would prefer to have semester because I enjoy taking summer vacations and would hate to be in school for 2.5 years straight. I’ll do whatever they make me do tho

I'd also prefer to do semester bc I want my summer breaks, but trimester would probably be a better idea since I don't have reliable transportation (if I do get to choose).

Based on info from previous threads, it sounds like students in the semester program do their clinicals at various hospitals, such as Hoag, so you get to work at a variety of great hospitals. Meanwhile, the trimester system mostly has clinicals at LB Memorial, and there's an agreement where those trimester students can work there after graduation. I'm not sure if this info is accurate, but it seems that both programs have their pros and cons, which makes it so hard to decide haha!

Hi everyone!

My stats

TEAS reading: 95.7%

TEAS overall: 93.3%

GE Pre-req GPA: 3.65

Science Pre-req GP: 4.0

TOTAL POINTS: 9.605

My english comp is over 10 years old and it seems like this might disqualify my application but I'd already applied when I found out. CSULB is my first choice so I was super sad. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if I hear anything from them.

Wow your TEAS are impressive lol. That totally sucks that your English comp is expired. They have so many little rules, it’s hard to keep up. Did you apply to CSULA? Their pre-reqs do not expire, but hopefully you did some volunteer work or have some work experience if you applied there. Good luck to you! Let us know if you hear anything. The communication exercise emails should be sent out soon...

That’s weird. I would rather just go to one hospital lol. And I would rather it be somewhere I live near. I would already be commuting every day to Long Beach for school which is 30 miles from my house. I would prefer to do my clinicals at a hospital closer to my house. Was hoping they would give us the option, but I have no idea how any of this works. I live walking distance to West LA Kaiser Permanente, so that would be awesome if they could let me do my clinicals there lol.

If you look at CSULB's schedule of classes and scroll to the very right, you can see which hospitals the classes are held. It looks like aside from VA Long Beach and LB Memorial, most of the hospitals are in Orange County, unfortunately. That would be quite a commute for you at 6 am! I wouldn't mind graduating a little later but traveling to clinicals that far is pretty challenging. Hopefully they'll give us more info about each program later on

Wow that sucks. I guess I’ll be choosing CSULA if I get accepted lol... screw that.

Do you mind sending me the link? I can’t seem to find it

LOL well, I've heard that there are 2 trimester cohorts and one semester cohort each semester, so I suppose it's more likely that you get to just stay at LB Memorial. Here's the link to the schedule of classes: http://web.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/registration/class_schedule/Spring_2020/By_Subject/NRSG.html

Hi! ty for your words on encouragement! I did 2 years at UCI fresh out of high school and didn't do super well so my cumulative GPA isn't the highest. I'm still holding out hope that LB will overlook the english but I would be happy to get into any RN program including the ADN programs. I'm gonna check in here on this thread so I can see when people start getting the communication exercise emails and I'll keep my fingers crossed
