CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2009--any applicants/ current students?

Published

Hi, everyone! I am getting ready to submit my application to CSULB's EL-MSN program--who else is applying?

Also are there any current students or graduates from this program out there? What do you think of the program--can you offer any advice?

Thanks!!

Hi levoila!

No she didn't mention when she'd start sending out for interviews. I was actually surprised to find out they even did interviews. She did say that they usually select 66-67 people to interview and from that group, you'll either be in or out. From what I gather over the phone, she's not a person to mess around. Intimidating non?

She strikes me as a very matter-of-fact, frank woman. She gets straight to the point but is nice. I've called a few times and sent a few emails and she has always been helpful.

During the info session, she said that they didn't have enough staff to interview applicants--the competition must be tough!

Yep well put. I like asking her questions because she's very straight with you. My questions to her have always been over the phone and I usually line up a bunch to go. Haha. Mostly because I feel like I need to be prepared to talk to her rather than waste her time and calling back all the time.

I think at this point, I'm just trying to relax and stop thinking about the applications so much. I think I might have a chance and then I think I don't. It's so draining. LoL.

I just did an interview at Loma Linda too. That went well.. at least I thought so.

LovinNP: Haha I know what you mean about preparing the questions--that's why I switched to emailing her when I realized that I still had more questions after calling her twice within a few minutes. How many more programs are you waiting for decisions from?

I convinced myself that doing the A-BSN program at CSUN would be the best option because it would make it possible to get the MSN in the specialty of my choice, rather than going into a longer program now, and then still have to get experience as a RN before being able to get into a NP program. That said, I was really impressed by the simulation lab at CSUF and the director seems to be so approachable that I also got a good feeling for that program. I still haven't received a decision from them yet. Then there's CSULB--at the end I would be a Clinical Nurse Specialist (which I think would give me good exposure to critical care nursing), but I would still have the problem of needing to get experience to be eligible to get the post-master's NP certification.

If I'm admitted, I will consider it, but at this point I'm just relieved that regardless, I still have a great option that would advance me toward my ultimate goal.

Good luck to everyone still waiting! I hope we hear about the interviews soon :)

hi everyone!! i have applied for the fall 2009 semester and have not yet heard anything. i called monalisa this morning to ask if they were still holding interviews and she said no!! she said the applications are with a "quality control" committee, going over all the calculations to make sure they are correct, and she's hoping a list will be made by the end of the week! she said if i call back friday afternoon, she may have the list ready--i don't know if she can tell me if i'm in or not over the phone, but it's worth a try. i guess the list gets posted somewhere? i'm not exactly sure, i guess i should have gotten these questions answered. anyway, maybe we will get letters by next week hopefully!!

good luck!!

Hi girly8208, are you sure that they are holding interviews for this program? I know that they have never had interviews in the past and it's based on a point system. Did Monalisa state that they specifically have interviews this year for some reason? Are the interviews only needed for some applicants? Sorry if I'm a little out of the loop. Thanks for the help!

no, they are not holding interviews. when i went to take the teas test there, there was mention of them holding interviews, but i guess they decided against it. too bad, i think interviews could be beneficial. either way, i hope we will find out soon!!

oh ok. thank you!

Heads up for those waiting to hear from CSULB.

I just talked with Monalisa Ward.

They are now in final review and plan to post the list of names of students admitted on this Friday at 1 p.m. at Nursing building. They are also going to notify students via snail mail, but this will take time (no email, no internet posting).

Fingers crossed for everyone.

Wow, thanks for that info. This is an odd request, but it would really help me to know ASAP whether or not I got in and I am not from southern California. Is it in anyway possible for anyone to let me know whether or not I got in? Thank you much.

Maybe I can tell someone my name and someone can just check to see if I got in or not? It would greatly help my decision-making process right now. Thanks again!
