CSULA's ABSN program Summer 2019

Published

Hello there!

I would love to start a thread of those applying for CSULA's ABSN program for summer 2019. I was hoping we could give each other some support and hopefully get to know each other a bit before starting school! I'm a little worried as I hear that the program is super competitive and I don't have many volunteer hours or experience. Is this a deciding factor in the decision process?

I JUST GOT AN EMAIL OFFERING ME AN INTERVIEW!!! :D

wonderful, congrats @etchensketch. Would you mind sharing what your healthcare experience and TEAs / GPA are please? What slot were you offered for interviewing. Are you nervous! Lol so many questions!!

Hey guys, did anyone get offered an interview spot before Saturday 2/2 or is that the first day of interviews? Anyone?

The first date I was offered was next Saturday, 2/9, and that's the date I'm doing. They offered the following Tuesday and then the next Saturday, 2/16 as well. GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!!

Congrats etchensketch (funny name :D)! The reality that many of us may be on our way to represent the 2019 cohort is becoming increasingly exciting.

Hey, so... Thought I'd share my experiences with the interview I had on the 2nd (Saturday). There were three panel reps in the room: Dr. Hinoki, Cindy (who I believe said she taught some of the classes), as well as Kashmira (the ABSN graduate assistant).

I'll stick with details in this post that are apropos as per guidelines:

1. Dr. Hinoki herself facilitated all of the questions.

2. IMO, the interview questions were super straight forward and fair - much like one would expect from, say, a job interview. It may be a good idea if you haven't done so to start envisaging your role as a student and as an RN.

3. The undercurrent of the interview could be described as amiable (though professional). I could tell she was genuinely curious about my trajectory, and on a related note, I didn't feel like just a number.

4. Expect a financial rundown of the program and its course scheduling.

5. The timed essay is (subjectively, albeit) not something to sweat over. You've made it this far and are likely perfectly capable of answering a forthright and educated answer. The "stressful" part about it was time management for its components.

We're a quiet bunch, 2019. Fill us in please! And good luck.

Hi jleegato! Thanks for sharing - this is very insightful. Best of luck to you! ?

Agree- thank you, jleegato, for sharing your experience! I just got waitlisted at the UCLA MECN program today so my interview at CSULA this Saturday carries that much more weight for me- I don't have a lot of fall back schools, so I need to shine. (Don't we all!). I'm going to just keep reviewing my answers to typical interview questions as well as nursing specific ones, and take your advice to heart about picturing myself in the role of student and nurse (past the "it's kinda my dream at the moment" aspect). Such a nerve wracking experience.

At least at this point you've done everything you can do- good luck to you and thank you for sharing what you found out! I'll add anything I experience as well.

I have one question- the email tells us not to bring anything except something to write on if we wish- do you think they would appreciate copies of resumes, etc? Or do they already have them? I was planning on bringing copies but the email said you don't need to...

You don't need to bring anything except something to write with. They actually provide pencil and eraser in case you forget.

Good luck ?

Thank you! I'm going tomorrow morning and am busy stressing about it today ?

I just wanted to add what a great way of explaining the interview jleegato did- I had mine yesterday and while nothing was given away, everything was completely accurate. Especially #2- think about typical interview questions, and picture yourself as a student in the program.

Dr. Hinoki is super nice and makes you feel instantly comfortable. She confirmed there are about 60 interviews for 30 slots. Good luck to everyone! I felt really good about the interview, process, and program after talking with her in person, so I am sure the other 59 of you will feel the same.

Hi! My first time posting here, but just wanted to say that I have my interview tomorrow and am excited and nervous! This is my second year applying, was waitlisted last year, and I concur with the above posts. My experience last year interviewing was the same. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck @deelyjoh! Hope things turn out for you this year. These next two months are going to crawl y'all ?.

I hope February flies by and we find out good news in no time! It sounds like we have about 6 weeks until we get the call... but we should hear soon about applying to CSULA, right?
