CSULA ABSN/ELMN 2014

Discussion related to the Summer 2014 start of Cal State LA's ABSN/ELMN program.

I was offered a seat on the wait list as well but declining the offer after talking with my family and deciding to accept CSUN's ABSN. I'm going to be a nurse...eeeekkk!!! So hopefully that pushes others up!! Good luck!

Side note: I haven't decided if I want to remain an RN, go the NP route, or become a midwife. So getting my BSN quickly and then deciding later is my plan. I love that nursing gives so many options!!

Crossing my fingers for everyone on the waitlist!! Good luck to you all!

Hi guys, you def. wanna accept all the federal loans you can BEFORE you start looking for private loans. They have very low interest rates you will not find from private. Unfortunately, I have heard from current students that the financial aid office is a nightmare. One even said it could take MONTHS to see your money. Worse comes to worse, I GUESS I can get a bigger private loan while I wait for the financial aid office to figure it out and then pay back the part of the private loan I don't need later? I'm not sure. Or if you have family members who can temporarily let you borrow some $ while financial aid kicks in that would also be a huge stress saver. Or if you have savings...idk just thiking of ways to cover the gap here.

Also, TLeeM did someone instruct you to apply as a 5th yr undergrad/2nd Bach? It makes sense to go that route because we are getting a BSN the first year, but I was instructed by "her" to submit as a masters student. I really wish we could apply as undergrads though because we get subsidized federal loans this way. I think there may also be a confusion because this is the first time they are offering the BSN with the program. Did anyone else hear differently?

No, that's what I was told too. Applying as a 2nd bachelor's would have been nice though...

I recieved an email today as well =\ and I am on the wait list. I hope I will be joining you'll!

Weird on apply as Masters since the application / info packet says we would only be eligible for the undergrad portion. Sallie Mae offers some loans at less than 3% interest - so I will see if I qualify under that first, then go federal if I have to. Since I am married and my hubby has a good job, we can start paying right away which helps you get a much lower rate. There are no origination fees either. Just some things to look into. Thanks for the awesome info. I will get clarification on 2nd BS vs MS

I sent an email over asking for clarification on what we should be putting on the FASFA. Either way I will need the private loans to help cover the RN portion of the program.

Oh and my reply above is the victim of iPhone auto correct - what I meant to say was:

Weird - I did not apply as masters since the application / info packets says.......

I assumed this meant we would be classified as undergrad until we get in the master's portion of the program. Anyhoo - I will let you all know what I hear and what info I get on the Sallie Mae program.

I think if you are going to start paying it off as you are in school, private loans are a good option too. Thank you TLeeM! Let us know what you find out please

Sorry, I forgot the quote!

I am guessing you could hear as soon as this afternoon! We had to commit as of yesterday. I do not know how many she is accepting or how many have declined so far. We have a FB group with 15 or so members so far that all have committed. Also we will have to start applying to the university next week, so I am sure she would like to have the cohort set by then. Good luck guys!!!!
