CSUCI Nursing BSN Fall 2015

Published

Hi everyone... I decided to make a thread for all of us Fall 2015 applicants at CSUCI. I'm kind of surprised no one has done so yet. If anyone wants to, please list your stats and your point total so we can see who CSUCI let's into the program and try to figure out what the cutoff is this year in terms of points. It will help students in the following years understand their chances of getting into the program as well.

Here's what I have:

Core GPA=4.0= 9points (I got a W in physio)

Overall GPA=4.0=6points

TEAS English and Reading Score=98th percentile=6points

TEAS Math Score=100 percent= 5 points

Resident of Ventura= 4points

Military= 4points

Volunteer Hours= >200= 3 points

Total= 37 points

Hopefully you guys can post too. Good luck to everyone!

Here's the supplemental criteria info if you need to calculate your points: http://nursing.csuci.edu/programs/suppcriteria-2015.pdf

Does anyone know how are they going to let us know if we got in or not? I just know that they should be letting us know in the next 5 days. Maybe Friday.

From last years thread, it seems they will be sending out a letter in the mail.

waiting for my letter too!

Did anyone get any emails from the nursing program? Still no word for me either! Hopefully we will find out good news soon!!

I'm glad I found this thread. I was getting concerned that my application got lost. It seems like in the past the acceptance letters were received by the first week of April. I just emailed the nursing dept to see what's up.

I have the identical stats to yours runstohousebeats, other than the volunteer points. I guess that puts me at a 34.

Good luck everyone! Hopefully, we will find out soon.

I'm sure we will find out soon :) Right now, no news is not bad news. I got a few emails from nursing last week saying they received my work experience, transcripts, TEAS scores etc. I know of one other person who got those emails, have any of you??

Hey guys! Got an email saying they'll send out acceptance letters on Monday!

has anyone heard anything about the program? If it's good? Passing rate? Grade scored on the Nclex? Tuition?

This wait is pure torture!!

I also applied with comparable points. Received the email that final decisions to be sent out Monday the 20th.

Hey Guys Im currently in my last semester nursing semester at CSUCI and have somethings to share with you. If you havent received an email saying you were not selected then chances are you still are in the running for a spot in the program. I got in with 32 points but this was way back in 2012 and I am sure it has only gotten more competitive since then. The Nclex pass rate had been 100% from 2010 to 2013 but this last year it was 98% meaning one person did not pass it on their first try. Overall we have the best pass rates in the county and well above the national average. Basically if you go to this nursing school its almost a given you will pass!!! The instructors are great and very friendly. Make sure you get involved in organizations early because this will only boost your resume once it is time to apply for jobs in 2018. I know that the curriculum has changed since I entered and that the classes have been babied down a bit because in the past some students were having difficulty passing the courses. Hope this helps! Please feel free to ask more questions.

Hi, Thanks for your post. I'm sure it will ease some anxiousness on all our parts.

Just to ask though, what organizations do you suggest we become a part of? Do you have any other suggestions that you could make as far as what we can do to make ourselves more marketable after graduation? And also, is it possible to work part time while doing the program?

The organizations you join are entirely up to you. The ones I recommend are Gamma Beta Phi (honor society), Student Nurses Association, perhaps Red Cross and any professional organizations that match your interests. For example, I joined the National Association of Hispanic Nurses 1. because i am hispanic, 2. because of their reputation in LA county, and 3. because they gave me a 6k in scholarships and 4. because of the amazing people I have met. I joined Gamma Beta Phi because of it always looks good on your resume to be a part of an honor society that pushes to make a positive impact on the community. So what I am doing to make myself more marketable? well i tend to highlight that I am bilingual, male, and have a pretty good track record of success. I have highlighted my intangibles which are things you cant teach such as compassion, a desire to learn, and a strong work ethic. Lastly, yes most people in my class work part time but i dont think anyone works full time. I suggest that if you do need to work part time then time management will play a big role in your life. I worked once a week at my current job but could have easily worked 3-4 days. It varies person to person.

Thanks for the reply. I'll make sure to keep those organizations is mind if I get into the program. :)
