Hi everyone! I'm wondering who's applying for stanislaus nursing program this spring 2015? Also, what is your overall stats? Btw, I am new to this community, so I'm still learning how to use this haha
@Misha
Hey! I'm excited for the holiday season but I'm more excited to start nursing school next sem but kind of nervous at the same time haha. Also, I'm going to SNA boot camp and looking forward to seeing my fellow nursing cohort!!! ? I guess we'll just hold on to making the FB page until we go to boot camp.
Oh, btw I haven't done the profile to do list yet ? been slackin' with that but I'll definitely start doing it this winter break. Have you started it yet?
@BertG
Congratulations for tackling down your first semester! That sounds so exciting! And thank you for offering your help! Will definitely ask you questions about the first sem of nursing school, just wait on it haha.
I wish you a good winter break, enjoy it you deserve it! & good luck on your second semester next sem!
Princesama, I kinda have. I made my profile and did my drug test and my background paid for and completed. Need to get vaccination stuff done and uploaded still. Just ordered the medical terminology book they suggested this morning. Started reading the one I have and realized it sucks lol. I can't WAIT to start!!
bertG77, thank you so much for offering your help. Only question I have so far is what's the deal with 2820? Is it an actual class? Got the impression that it's only used for the medical terminology test. If you don't mind... Can you give us some insight as to what to expect? Thanks again for the advice :)

Sure! 2820 is Fundamentals, which for me has been the class that has mattered the most this semester. In it we learned the skills that were the most fun, such as giving injections, inserting a catheter, doing tracheotomy care, hanging an IV bag, medication administration,etc. The is the class you'll spend the majority of your time studying for, and in the lab practicing for. You'll build confidence and it will be a lot of fun. You'll learn to calculate dosages, and to put your assessment skills into practice. Mary Ann and Sheri are awesome, and hilarious. They'll help you incredibly and push you to do well. So, short answer is that it's a real class, with lots to learn.
Yeah, it said that on our class schedule as well and none of us knew what to make of it either. But you'll see that the class itself (lecture) is held on Mondays, but the time will be different depending on how they split up your cohort. Half of you will have it at like, 10am and the other half will have it at 11am, and the rest of the day the lab will be available to everyone to practice skills. It's confusing, I know.
@BertG How was the stress level of your first semester? Was it manageable? I see that you're from Oakland! Like what do you commute from there to Turlock?
Yeah I commute to Turlock, at the beginning of the week, stay in town during class days and return home at the end of the week. It's not bad at all. The stress level wasn't horrible but it did feel overwhelming at times. It's really just a matter of adjusting. I feel like it was comparable to the stress I felt while doing pre req's, but the flow and the material is much different. Someone else on allnurses put it well when they said, "you learn how to be a nursing student, " during first semester. If that makes any sense. Now that it's over, and we recently got a taste of clinicals, all I can say is that it seems as though all the newly acquired info and skills starts synthesizing when put into practice.
