Hello, everyone I'm new to this forum and I'm applying to CSN for Spring 2014. I was wondering if there are any other hopefuls out there?
...I know that BIOL 189 is a prerequ for BIOL 223 but does anyone know if those are more of suggestions or are they set in stone? There will also be a change in the point system starting FALL 2014 so if I go in with around 35pts out of the new 44 points possible am I going to stand any sort of a chance on getting in?Anything will help!!
Thanks!
First of all good luck to you when your time comes... As for the pre regs of 189 that's set in stone as far as my knowledge goes. .. As point wise based from other forums the average points where 26 out 34 that got in for pt and ft. So my guess says that your chances can be in the middle. If that helps any...
I'm just still confused because here in California, even with amazing grades, it's basically a lottery to be accepted. So assuming the point cut off was 37 out of 40 for that semester.. I would definitely be accepted into the program if I had applied with 38 points...?
I don't think I have seen anyone apply with 38 points. That's 100% certain you are in if that's the case. California appears to do their nursing differently than here. It's basically whoever has higher points has higher chances. It's not randomly selected, unless there is a tie. Looking at past forums, people have been accepted with as low as 25 points and alternates have good chances too.

The cutoff has never been 37 and it has always been merit-based, no lottery. They take the top 130 or so, everyone else has to try again next time.
I'm so anxious for the phone call! (Hopefully). Thank goodness it's finally October! Has anyone else been reading forum posts from previous years? It looks like the LE office started calling the accepted students on October 25th.
Yep, October 25th was a wonderful day for me. I can't believe it's already been a year since I was accepted! Hopefully you will all find out sooner than later! But trust me, the time FLIES! And you will be super busy so take advantage of any free time you have now because you won't have much of it once you start! :)
I just checked out the CSN site and the max possible points for Fall '14 and Spring '15 is 44. The old max was 34 but they have made math 120 worth an additional 10 points. I really think that's great because I never took any math class other than math 100 and it really didn't help me prepare for dosage calc tests. Hopefully it will make it a bit tougher to get in because I think it's been a bit easy lately.
As of now, 34 is the maximum amount of points a student can accumulate. Like relaxingdream said, students with the highest amount of points are selected. The selection criteria is available on the CSN website. If you're considering a transfer, you can compare your transcripts to the selection criteria and, assuming CSN accepts your credits, you can get a better idea of what points you have. Beginning in Fall 2014, math 120 will be worth 10 points, so the maximum available points will be 44. A lot of other considerations can affect a students chance of acceptance: your points (obviously), the points of other applicants (high scoring group = more competition... low scoring group = less competition), total number of applicants total ("up to 136 full time per semester"), etc. No wait lists..thank goodness!

One thing I do worry about is how to balance out the clinicals with my work schedule. I get stressed out thinking about it sometimes because I know clinicals are 12 hours and then I work 8 hour shifts. What a drag. It's one of those things I wish I could quit my job to focus on school, but of course I have bills (like paying for the whole program without financial aid). I have to prepare for something. This is something I take to God so much. I am confident all of this will work out in some fashion and I pray everyone can balance this out as well.

Actually first semester clinical is only 6 hours, once a week. 2nd semester is 7 hours twice a week. It's not so bad. Last semester I spent only 15 hours a week away from home for school stuff. This semester it's about 20/week. You will find a way for it to work out. It may be a tough balancing act until you get your schedule straight though.

I'm a Spring 2015 RN hopeful. I have a Bachelors degree from CSU, Chico and was wondering if any of you had a degree from another college and if you had any trouble with your general ed prerequs transferring... (MATH, HIST) I also have a Nutrition minor but my Human Physiology classes only transfer as lower division general ed so I'm told I will have to retake those classes... I know that BIOL 189 is a prerequ for BIOL 223 but does anyone know if those are more of suggestions or are they set in stone? Anything will help!!
