Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and I was wondering if there are any fellow CSN RN Spring '13 hopefuls out there. I just turned in my application today and I would love to get to know some of my potential classmates through this forum :)

Hello, I have a question. I was looking at the degree programs and there's 2 types of nursing. Which one should I choose to become a registered nurse and how do I get there. When I was looking at both of the degrees I noticed that for biology you have to have 16 credits does that mean I have to take Bio 189, Bio 223, Bio 224, and Bio 251 before starting my major, and one more thing can I start my major and take these classes while I take my major classes?

P.S. I am currently studying at CSN and I need the information for registered nursing. I have no clue what to do.

Yes, there are 2 different programs, one is an LPN-RN bridge which you can only take if you're already an LPN. The other is the ADN (Associate Degree Nursing) program which is what I'm in currently. It does require 16 credits of biology, 8 of which (189 & 223) must be completed before you apply. The other 8 credits MAY be completed during the program but most likely you will need those points in order to be accepted. Those classes are also tremendously helpful for the first semester nursing classes. I can't imagine not having that knowledge already, I would be so lost. Your best bet would be to go to a limited entry orientation so you will be eligible to have a meeting with a nursing specific advisor. Or there is a nice man at the limited entry advisor's office that can probably give you some pointers. They will look at all of your credits and tell you what to do before applying. I would recommend that you take ALL of the pre-reqs & general education classes prior to applying. It will take a bit longer but you will get more points on your application and during the program it is way too much work to have to worry about other classes.

hi .. just had a question for current students.. what are your thoughts on 125 online or in class? have students said negative things about the online course? i keep going back and forth.. thank you

Unless they change something for you, the online 125 instructor writes all of the 125 exams, regardless of who you have. I took 125 in-class but I got ahold of the online students PowerPoints and used them to study and I did well. So I would pick something that works with your schedule and find out who writes the exams and get their PowerPoints from another student. I have heard that the online 125 instructor is less than pleasant and she also lives out of state so if you're the type of student that gains a lot of help from your instructor you may want to take it in-class.

I agree with Christina... Everyone studies differently, but if I had to do it over again I would take it online.

Thank you:) I don't really ever need the professor. That's what I've heard also.. Not very nice. Sombra.. You'd take it online? Are you an independent learner? I can teach myself I think haha but scared because its something totally new! Nail biting..!

Yes, I would consider myself an independent learner. As long as you follow the power points as your primary source for studying and follow up with reading from the text what you don't understand you will do fine. People are understandably a little nervous about going into the first semester taking anything online and so was I, but knowing what I do now I would have taken it online. Hope that helps and good luck!

I'm a 3rd semester student & I took 125 online. The instructor is horrible - just going to say. READ THE BOOK! And use the powerpoints to push the main points home. My advice is to skip listening to the lectures. There are a lot of tangents in those audios & half of the slide have audio that are 30 mins+. You'll make it through.

First semester will break you. I don't think any of us made it through without a few tears shed. Make sure you know EXACTLY what you need to have at each class. Check everywhere at least twice (hopefully canvas will be more organized than the angel page was). Those 3% deductions can hurt you! And practice NCLEX questions! It will help immensely!

whoops...wrong message board!

Omg!!! @ Christina & Sombra (with the Gizmo pic lol haha) i have been reading your guys pre entrance threads to your RN program from sept on till nov and in between i did not read haha but i want to tell you every post you two put up i was feeling your anxiety/excitement, nervousness, and then HAPPY moments when you got IN!@!! felt like i was in a 3d movie :) I am alll the way in Afghanistan I am a private contractor here on tour with the US ARMY... i am not in military though, anyway omg so I am planning on moving from my hometown Cali to go for the RN program at CSN :) dang, i am at a military tiny base in middle of mountains and i am reading your guys post, aint that something!! hope you all are proud because your posts made a huge diff in someones life (MINE) I just wish I knew how long the prereqs might take and not jus start to finish but if its pretty tough to get in etc. I have 8 years of CNA exp. Home care though, My fam was strict didnt let me do more than 3 months of skilled nursing job that I did in 2005. anyways I went in 2009 for the LVN program at Kaplan Univ in San Diego Cali... I left due to fam reasons. I completed 8 courses/classes but i know not 1 single class might transfer sadly.. I did anatomy physio and Nutrition, and Some science courses there and Child development and all of that stuff but sadly as I said money down the drain (9k out of pocket no interest) and, now i don't want to dwell on it i rather just start fresh and go for the PREREQs for the RN at CSN and reading all your guys posts made me not want to think twice.. how is CSN so far treating you two? :) just know, that someone at the end of the Earth is greatly impacted by your guys posts :) V/R Tima
