CSCC response time for online track

Published

Hi there,

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how long it took to hear back about the online track applications? I have been reading several posts on here and it seems like the traditional takes about 3 months to hear back and I just wondered if that was the same for the online? I have seen where several people have been accepted to the traditional Sp'11 class and they will be receiving information in Dec. I applied for the online track on Monday and am curious to know when I should start stalking the mailman.:)

I spoke with someone this week who said online applicants should be hearing back about acceptance around the first week of December. The bad news is she was also advised that people who did not have all of the core requisites completed when they applied were a lot less likely to be accepted. She and I both had 4 core req's left at the time of application, but are both going to have them completed before the Sp '11 start. She said they recvd a lot of applications. We'll wait and see. Only 3 more weeks or so.

what?? Columbus state has an online nursing program?? I had no Idea.

I am attending the LPN to RN online program through the university of Rio Grande.

Yes, they have an competitve entrance online track. The traditional track is in class and enrollment on a first come first serve basis for 120 or so students with a fall start and spring start for now. The online track is a competitve entrance with 40 seats for applicants who hold a bachelors degree in another area study. Enrollment is also twice a year for now, but all applications are reviewed and ranked for GPA, A2 score, brief essay, and how many core requisites you have completed. I know that there is a 3rd track for LPN to RN applicants, but I have not read up on it, so I do not know if it is set up traditional or online. Hope this helps.

I just got the letter today. I got in for Spring 2011. I'm so happy.

Congrats!! That's really exciting! Do you mind me asking what your stats were when you applied? GPA/core classes/HESI score? I tried getting some of this info from CSCC Nursing, but they never got back to me. I'm just trying to seriously assess my chances of getting in - applying in Feb to the Autumn 2011 online program.....oy.

I know it's really hard to get an exact answer from the program. I think it varies from quarter to quarter based on the applications they receive. When I applied, I had only finished the pre-req's, plus Bio 261 and 262. Since it was the online track my previous degree took care of all my GEC's including Com 105. I am taking Bio 215 and Bio 263 this quarter and Winter I am taking Psych 240, Math 135 and Hosp 153 (Nutrition - Nursing elective). So I will have the core requisites done prior to starting. My GPA with CSCC is 3.92, but was only a 2.55 for my BA (I graduated in '94 so they may not have considered that as heavily). I scored an 85 on the Hesi (A2). From what I can tell from others who were accepted in the past that volunteered their grades they had at least 3.75 GPA and better than 85 on the A2. I hope that helps and Good luck to you.

That's really helpful - I'm nervous because I don't have any of the biologies done at all. Next quarter I'm taking 261, PSY240, and HOSP153. I finished all the pre-reqs with a 4.0 this quarter, so hopefully that helps. Taking the HESI on Friday so we'll see about that. Everything else, including statistics, I have done from my last degree (which, I have a 3.2 GPA from that). I'll also have all the corequisites done by fall 2011 start date - 261 in winter, 262 and 215 in spring, and 263 in summer. . . I feel like I'm really borderline at best, so I'm nervous about this - if I don't get in to the fall 2011 online program, I hear the wait is going to go out to 2013 for the people who apply traditional in January. And that's not happening. Oy.

Thanks for volunteering that information! It's next to impossible to even get an opinion of "should I even bother applying for the online track" from the nursing department - so very frustrating. How did you convey that you'd have all your co-requisites done before the start date - did you include that in your essay? I heard the essay's another big portion of what they look at in considering applicants.

Your grades are fantastic, so I wouldn't worry there. I was told this quarter the emphasis was on the completion of the core requisites. I don't know if it will hinder you that you haven't had anatomy and the others yet. I would definately apply with your grades. I didn't think my essay was all that great, I kept it short and to the point. Over 1/2 my coursework so far had been done online or hybrid so they knew I could navigate blackboard already. I think that helped. Just try not to get discouraged and definately apply in Feb. if the online track is what you want. All you can do is keep trying. The traditional track only has a few spots left for Fall and then they are rolling the others to Spring 2012. The traditional applications are due in Jan. and there is confusion about whether or not you can apply to both programs simultaneously.

Have you considered applying to the traditional program? I applied in July 2010 and I am starting March 2011 and then switching to the online program after the first quarter. I wanted to do online but it was too big of a risk to not know if I would get in or not - at least with traditional you know you will. When I applied in July 2010 they said there were barely any spots left in the March 2011 start date, but I definitely got in so don't let that discourage you.

I would recommend calling the nursing department and attempting to get an answer as to what happens if you apply to both traditional and online. I understand from a friend that she applied to online winter of 09 and when she applied a month later for the traditional program, that cancelled her online application - and she is now starting traditional spring 11. But, there are LOADS of rumors that happen over there and I would try to get a straight answer.

The problem with applying in Jan 11 is that they are filling Spring and fall 12 where the online application is filling fall 11. I saw those dates on a sign outside the nursing department today. They are also moving to a 1 application per year for the traditional program.

When I called to ask, they said you could have two applicants at once (online and traditional) but an acceptance to one canceled the other. However, I was afraid that a second application would cancel the first regardless and since everyone in the department gives you a different answer, I opted to not risk it.

I heard a rumor they were going to one start date a year, but I hadn't heard that is official. That is such a poor decision with how back logged they already are. Ugh! So glad I got in before that happened.

I cannot tell you for sure what happened with my old classmate, only what she told me happened - that her traditional application cancelled her online (without ever receving a decision on the online). It didn't happen to me because I wanted traditional, so I cannot tell you for sure whether it happened that way at all.

I don't know that they are switching to 1 start date per year. I haven't heard that from any of the instructors. At this stage, they are switching to 1 application period per year filling 2 different classes.

Time to get off here. 1st quarter finals next week!
