Oh gosh...don't feel like you are dumb, b/c you are not.

It takes practice.

The first time I went to give a patient a shot, I started to give it without wiping the site with alcohol!!!

My face turned red. I said, "Of all things, step 1...I forgot"...luckily my clinical instructor reminded me and handed me one to complete the injection.

She laughed and said, "If you don't do it everyday, it's easy to forget."

don't worry. the smartest people in my nursing classes failed the nursing boards. It also does not at all reflect what kind of an aide you will be. The fact that you are so upset about it says more about you not passing, than if you had passed it anyway. A concerned, conciencious person is much better than one that does not care.

I wonder if there is any "age discrimination" going on here? Sounds like some of the items that students who passed neglected to do are every bit as serious (or more so) than what you forgot to do. And....why didn't she give you a "prompt"??? Anyway, I guess none of that matters now....but would it be worth going back to her and letting her know how you feel? On second thought, probably not. There is such a shortage of health care professionals....particularly at the CNA/LNA level....it seems like there would be more effort made to help students succeed. As my mother always said, "keep your chin up". :-) :)

oh my: i was just grazing through some of the posts tonight and this one caught my eye. i have been a cna for 15 years and am now in rn school, but the red flag for me was the student that pulled the sheet under you. the worst thing any cna can do is create skin tares!!! i dont care if she passed, you will ultimately make the better cna for being so vigilent! i know personally as well because i have a daughter with cp that came very close to death because of a necrotic bedsore that was caused by a skin tear.

just another note, a little of the subject but in the family of insecurities for me. i took a dosage calculations course and recieved an f, i cryed "enternally" throughout the last exam because i knew that it didnt matter what i recieved on the last exam, but you know what i took it anyways. my point here is the dosage calculations teacher e-mailed me and changed my whole outlook on life. she said " the students that pass with a's the first time scare me, they are to self-assured and would never second judge an dr. order, you one the other hand was just scared to get one answer wrong. she said "if i had a choice i would want you as my nurse, because you would second check.

:tbsk: i recieved a a+ this semester and ironically i didnt study much at all. confidence is so important. not to ramble on but i dont know what state your in but when i retook my course 2 yrs ago in maine we didnt do a practical test at all. we did throughout the course but the final was a 200 question test. pass or fail. feel free to private text if you need any support.:redbeathe
