would you cross a picket line????

Nurses Activism

Published

Yesterday one of my nursing coworkers told me about some strike in OHIO and that she was going to take a travel assignment to that area..... I am totally happy where I am, but I was kinda wondering what that atmosphere would be like...I feel that everyone deserves healthcare and can understand her position that she goes where the money is but, crossing a picket line???? I just do not think I could do it. Obviously those nurses are in extreme duress to have to strike.....So, what do you all think could you cross a picket line????? I do not think I could.

The comments from other Texas nurses in the Southern Nursing Shortage thread contradict your claim.

I question how well things are faring for RNs there if, as youve said, you have to work as a strikebreaker in other states in order to provide for your family in Texas.

Damn -jt to think I wasnt available for Minnesota, they have some nice golf courses up there too. They even have one that has a floating green, thats awesome.

There you go with your union rhetoric again, thinking that mob politics forcing one side to compromise with the other is the answer. But you can not blame your problems and nearsightedness on strikebreakers. Your biggest enemy is yourselves. Not us.

Yes I have a rusted pickup in my front yard, still has the rifle rack in it too. And The putting green is in the backyard. Right next to the outhousem eeehhhaaawwwwww. Hillbilly life is grand. Whos got my goat. Now yall stay away from my chickens, ya hear. I even like the sign in the front thats says BEWARE to all revenuers, and republicans. I still have the ole Flag hanging. eeehhhaaawwwwwwww. As it says in the that old James Dean song. I wont go huntin with ya jake, but I'll go chasin women.

Well again -jt, ya just dont get it. My texas salary for the last 6 years has grossed at a little over 6 figures each year. I do the strikebreaking as you call it for a extra spending cash and also because I enjoy it. Now the way I see things is that I am entitled to work as I choose.. And thats all there is to it. See Im not adding any rhetoric.

Besides the money maybe its just that silly old principle. You draw a line in the sand, And I am the type who just has to prove that I can cross it.

Also I manage my life the best way I see fit to do so. Life is very simple when you take out all the unnecessary hype. Family. Work. And of course GOLF.

I support your right to unionize and pay dues to a bunch of attorneys and unionists. Me. I put my money in a bank, preferably interest bearing. I like that better.

Tom?

My texas salary for the last 6 years has grossed at a little over 6 figures each year.

ER nurse > 100,000 a year?

Why do the wages seem so much better there? The cost of living is certainly cheaper. How bizzare.

How come it takes spilled blood everywhere else to get anything resembling a wage comensurate?

BTW: If the pick-up doesn't run and you have to kick around in the "lawn" to find it........then the DX is Redneck and not Hillbilly. :chuckle (Foxworthy, 99)

Well Peeps, I have the W2s to back it up, I also log in the hours. to get what I want. I keep trying to tell you, reduce things to their lowest common denominator and life. like golf is much better.

And whether redneck or hillbilly, I still like johnny cash amd charlie pride. And some of that good ole blue grass banjo pickin music. That stirs your soul and makes you feel good all over.
