CRNE June 2012

World Canada CRNE

Anyone started to prepare for CRNE June 2012?

I think if the passing score is 550 .that means the raw score to pass have to be 123.75~ 124 upon 180. (550/800=Y, Yx180= 123.75, so if you get 510, that means you will get 114 out of 180 questions right.) that's really a lot. I hope someone can correct me if I am wrong.

@Pauly05

It might also be helpful to look up the Provinical Competencies for an entry level nurse. After the exam I was wishing I did because I think it would have been helpful. If you have a login name and password from one of the hospitals that you did a clinical practice at, you could do some E-learning modules that may help (ie. chest tubes, picc lines).

Good luck on your next try. My heart goes out to you.

I am from Brampton and got the letter earlier on today that I passed. By some unknown miracle I passed. I am in shock and happy that I can actually sleep knowing its done but I do have to acknowledge that not all were as lucky as I was and I have heard of many close friends failing which breaks my heart. I am really sorry for those who were unsuccessful but please know that you will do it the next time around. Also I heard the same thing that the cut off was 550 and above so I guess they must have done a scaled score of some sort. I agree with a lot of the tips that grad.rye. 2012 has stated in their post.

To Those Planning to Write the CRNE here are my suggestions:

I started to study 6 months prior to the examination as I needed extra time and my brain needs to process all of the information. Two weeks prior to the exam I studied about 4-6 hours per day. I also did not cram or study the day before the exam because the brain does need resting time especially because the exam is 4 hours long and early in the morning. My main study guide was the Mosby's Comprehensive Review for The Canadian RN Exam. I used Mosby's to help guide my studing. Anything that was mentioned that I did not remember or did not get I went back to other books such as Jarvis, Lewis and Potter and Perry to review and make notes.

I also found it helpful when going through Mosby's that I made a chart where I would write down a diagnosis, definitions, related symptoms, and treatments. As Mosby's can become overwhelming as many of the disease have similar symptoms I found the chart helpful to distinguish.

I do not think that the CNA prep guide was helpful; I mean I went through the practice questions but that was all there was to it. I believe the readiness tests offered were also not anything like the CRNE so please do not get too stressed if you do not do well on this. I did not do well on the readiness test and I was devastated, only to find out that they are not similar at all. I would highly suggest knowing the competencies, the questions on the CRNE are basically testing for competencies so if you get to a question and you don't know the answer, knowing the competencies will help. I found it helpful to read the question and think about what competency they are asking you about. Then once you know what they are asking move on to the answers and select the answer that you feel best represents that particular competency.

Also I would sugguest knowing your calculations on medication administration. I also used another book which was pretty useful called Lippincott's CRNE Prep Guide. This book has over 900 practice questions and I believe is well worth the money as I used it and passed the CRNE.

Also always read the rationales when you are reading answers to practice questions, read all the rationales even if you got the questions right as some of the information mentioned there is a great way to understand specific information.

Just do what you feel comfortable doing, study the way that is your successful way of studying. I mean the way I studied may not work for everyone, do what works for you though. I studied with another person sometimes and other times on my own. Good luck to those who are still waiting, congrats to those who have passed, and sorry to those who have failed.

The passing mark was 550 out of 800. I got 510.. Guess more studying for me. What is frustrating now though is I have to go through all the anxiety again. The studying wasn't even that bad. But considering my mark guess I should have studied a lot more. Thanks for the above suggestions grad.rye.2012!

wow! so now they do not give out the raw score? what could their reasoning for that be? Pauly, i wish you the best of luck on your next attempt! you will surely succeed. you were very close.

From Toronto - I passed! Such a huge relief. My goodness!

Hi Pauly05

I am so sorry to hear this, and I'm sure nothing anyone says at this time will make it easier.

When the time is right I'm sure you will get back in the books and pass in October. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I wish you the best in the future.

Crossing my fingers

I'm in Calgary and in the mail today arrived a spiffy envelope from CARNA. I passed. :)Best of luck to those still awaiting their results.

Hi

Still waiting in London, I feel physically sick, I really believed it would come today. It is so unfair we cannot check on line, so unfair, looks like I will keep feeling sick for another 24 hours.

I could cry I am so fustrated with this whole process, so fustrated.
