I'm assuming most of the posters here are from the US? I live in Canada, specifically in the city of Toronto. Over half our population are non-white "minorities" if you can call it minority at all. The nursing profession especially, whites are the minority, I've been on past units where white nurses make up maybe like 10%. Most are filipino, black, or some kind of south or east asian. I'm surprised to hear about this discrimination still existing, guess it really depends on location as well maybe.

Hey I'm in the same boat! I had an interview a couple days a go and they said they will call within 2 weeks. But I have a colleague who got hired at the same hospital recently and she told me they called her on the same day she did her interview, they called her in the evening to offer her a position. Should I be worried.. because I definitely wasn't contacted the same day or the day after.. do i still have a chance within these 2 weeks!? Ahh..

I used to be that way, a lot of my fellow nurses are like that too. However, I recently graduated and have been job hunting for 3 months. At this point I will work any where and take any job! lol

Jane, your answer was very useful! I'm also a new graduate from Ontario and I passed the June CRNE. I'm getting worried because I have had no luck in landing a job so far.. it's been 3 months since I graduated and it's gonna be past 6 months by October and then I won't qualify for HFO. I don't know where to go from there. Do you think where you did your last consolidation placement affects the opportunities? Because I really feel like I was ripped off because my last placement was in child mental health which is such a narrow field and there are no job postings in that area.. even the mental health positions want adult mental health experience. I don't know where to go from here, I had my resume and cover letter professionally edited, and I've been applying everywhere but I'm not being contacted for an interview at all. It's looking very bleak, and I'm trying to just stay positive but my confidence has dropped from this fruitless job hunt.

I'll give you my honest opinion, if I could do it all over again I probably won't choose nursing. I'm 22 years and a new graduate nurse (just finished at the end of April!) from a university in Toronto, Ontario. The job market is pretty bad right now, I've been looking for work since February while I was still completing my last semester.. figured it would be better to start earlier. No luck so far... I would say that more than 75% of my classmates are still unemployed at the moment. Maybe when you graduate in 4 years, the job market could change but right now there's no nursing shortage at all. It's not easy being a nursing student, at clinical placement the other nurses basically "eat their young" and it doesn't get any easier after you graduate. I have had to endure physical and verbal abuse from patients. You mention you worked in customer service? Well, at least when there is a difficult customer you can call security. Nursing is not what it used to be, workloads have increased and the general environment is not the greatest. I have had days when I had a full patient load, and all shift I was doing bed baths, changing diapers, transferring patients and bringing them to the washroom, and on top of that ... this specific unit I worked on made the nurses take out the garbage too.. that's right, we had to tie the dirty linen and diaper bags and bring them to the dirty utility room. The hospital tries to cut costs this way.. making the nurses do more work like this. Sometimes I don't feel I'm utilizing all my medical/nursing skills or knowledge at all, just doing bed baths all day.. This is my own personal experience, it hasn't been the greatest. I always wanted to be able to help people and make a difference in people's lives, but on bad days it really makes me question if being a nurse is the way to go. Everyone's experience is different so maybe you'll have a better one than I did. I HIGHLY recommend you volunteer or work in a hospital/nursing home first.. see what it's like to take care of a patient and see the work environment for yourself. Best of luck in whatever you do.

@janfrn, I was only making a simple observation through my last post, I'm not as surprised as you assumed. I'm well aware of the other responsibilities of the CNO, and I only made one phone call, I wasn't bombarding the receptionist. Perhaps the receptionist did go to the washroom and was being covered, who knows? Thanks for the reply, hope others will read it too.

yes, called CNO yesterday afternoon and the best update they could give me was by the end of this week they will be mailed out, another person who called got the same update as me. Strange that you called today and some lady said she doesn't know? But yeah looks like we'll at least get it by next week in Ontario since it will be the 6 week mark..

CNO plans to mail the results out by the end of the week. So it's another wait for us in Ontario!

68.75%? Would it be out of 180 questions then? Because 20 is experimental? This scaled score is confusing ah.

Oh, so the results are indeed mailed out to the provincial college first.. which explains why I've been told Ontario is last. We have to the biggest population and takes the longest to mail out to lol. That's too bad, the wait is absolutely brutal. Congrats to everyone who got their results already and passed! For those asking for the passing mark.. only those that failed will know and get a breakdown of their marks! So I'm glad to see no one has failed yet!

How did you find that out? I'm in Ontario so I wonder if CNO has received the results? I thought they were all mailed out already.. didn't know they had to go through the province's nursing regulatory body!
