CRNE June 2009

World Canada CRNE

Published

Hi there! I'm writing the CRNE tomorrow and wanted to start this thread to get some chatter going to support each other. Anyone else writing tomorrow?

I'm nervous....somewhat! It's kind of a strange feeling actually. If I really let myself think about it, it frightens me to death, but then other times I'm completely calm. KWIM?? Anyone else going through these mix of emotions?

Anyway, I have to go get ready since I have to drive an hour and half out of town to write, and we're actually spending the night tonight.

Good luck to you all!

I passed!!!!! It was helpful looking on here as I was starting to panic that I hadn't heard.

I am British and had been working on an interim permit since arriving in Jan. I just worked through 2 different books full of past papers plus did the online test.

I live in BC, the result was in a white A4 envelope.

Yeah!!!!!:yeah:

Hi BritinBc,

Congrats on your CRNE result.I live in United Kingdom and working towards doing my CRNE.Please tell me where did you get some of the past questions you used in preparingn for the exam cos i hav only gotten the Prep guide 4th edition. Will like to follow your style. It was great.

I used the Prep Guide and also Lippincott and Mosby's(?sp) Guide to the CRNE, I bought them from Amazon. They were expensive but worth it as they had more questions. I also purchased the online prep test. I started studying in about Feb, but in the last 2 weeks I took some time off work and really concentrated on it. I have 3 kids so it was hard at times.

Plus, I am more specialised now in the area that I work and was having to go back and study stuff I hadn't done since I qualified (in 1990!!!) Hope this is of some use.

Hi, I'm sitting for CRNE in October and have the same books, well I have the Lippincott and Mosby, I'm purchasing the CRNE guide next week :)

I feel kind of anxious right now, lol.

Congrats to all the nurses who pass it, and good luck in October for everyone else :)

Hi petgroomer,

I wrote the June 2009 exam, this is my first try and thankfully I was successful! Spend more time on the prep guide for the questions are of the same type in the examination. Almost all the questions are psychosocial.

Check the appendixes (CRNE competencies) and try to understand it. They coined words from these lists in the exam questions. You will find it very useful and have an easier time choosing the correct answer.

Good Luck.

I got my results today and I passed! I screamed like a little school girl when the man working at the post office handed me the envelope. What a relief on my shoulders now!! Plus I got called for an air transfer to ottawa for tonight! What a day!!

Hi to all October takers

You might as well start reading now and stick to your schedule, whatever works for you. Your job is not an excuse for not diligently reviewing. Have at least 4-6 hours everyday, maybe more during the weekends. I went through the prep guide three times, because they said that it is the closest to the exam, and I found out, it still is. I did not enrol in any review class. I started reviewing January and read the compendium, Mosby, Lippincott and took the readiness test. It is worth the sacrifice. :nurse: :yeah:Thank you for this thread.

hi everyone here..thx:bowingpur:bowingpur:bowingpur God..i passed:yeah::yeah::yeah:...i feel sooooo gd now..i just received my results today coz the mail address is overseas.. wondering any international nurses here who sit the crne??

I worte the CRNE in June and did not do as well as I had hoped. I will have to redo in October and am discouraged that this has happened? I thought that I studied enough, but I was wrong. I am really trying to think positively, but it is so hard to do so after receiving these results. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can do things differently this time around? Are there any courses that anyone could recommend? I live in the Toronto area. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi everyone

First of all congrats to all those who made it thru the June 2009 exam:yelclap:

The question which I have for people in GTA area is that -

1. Is there a institution in Greater Toronto area that offers review classes for CRNE exam ?

2. If yes, did anyone take thoese classes and were they helpful

I plan to write the exam in Oct 2009 and would appreciate if anyone of you can answer these questions

I am sorry to hear you did not do to well in the June sitting.

I wrote the exam in the June sitting and I used the CRNE prep book and participated in a review class.

Keep this in mind, anyone can fail the exam even if they studied for a year or more (sorry for being gloomy =S). I have friends who graduated with honors who did not pass the exam.

What is important is not only the knowledge required, but also know how to apply it to different settings.

This is where critical thinking and nursing judgment apply.

Practice tests help build your ability to critically think (understand the rationale behind your answers).

As for review courses, try to participate in a review course that not only covers nursing knowledge

but also builds on your ability to apply that knowledge (e.g. mock exams)

Keep your hopes up and have faith in yourself!:nurse:

lissylala...thanks for the advice. You stated that you took a review course. Is it one that is open to anyone taking the CRNE or was it with your school? if so, is it in the Toronto area? I have been looking into this and there is a course that is offered at George Brown College in Toronto that is a 2 day course. Have you or anyone else heard anything about this course...or any other course for that matter???

Thanks!
